I like Percy but I don't like Percival or Perseus. What do you think?

Pantaleimon is so much better.

Pants for short.

KNain · 02/06/2018 12:00

It makes me think of the Poseidon's Fury ride at Universal Studios (based on the film). And the fact that my friend constantly referred to it as 'Poss-ee-don'.

I can't imagine shouting it across a park - "be careful of around the pond Poseidon"

BabiesDontNeedDaddies · 02/06/2018 13:55

So I've learnt the outlandish replies are a good thing. I love polytheism and mythology so the gods angle is fine. Babies get named Mohammad, Jesus, and Joseph every second. I think it's definitely going in the pot

Can you imagine shouting it out in the park- nope!

Flamingosnbears · 02/06/2018 14:14

Looks like poison...

Cosmoa · 02/06/2018 14:18

I love it! And agree people should be more brave with their name choices!

PurpleCrowbar · 02/06/2018 14:24

Pluto would be shorter & more manageable, surely? Grin

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 02/06/2018 14:25

Peregrine?

BertrandRussell · 02/06/2018 14:25

“And agree people should be more brave with their name choices!”

When naming themselves, of course if they want to. Not if they are naming an unconsenting third party, who may well not be brave, or want to be brave every time someone says “What’s your name?”

ToffeeUp · 02/06/2018 14:29

I would think you have read too many Percy Jackson books.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 02/06/2018 14:31

Makes me think of Shelley Winters giving that bloke her necklace before she dies. And tbf they did a really good job getting it so the ship looked upside down.

ittakestwo · 02/06/2018 14:31

It’s a no from me.

Ontopofthesunset · 02/06/2018 14:31

Don't be silly. You're naming a sentient being, not a toy boat or a fish and chip shop. And, if you want to call the kid Percy anyway, it makes no sense as a long form; he'd be called Possy or Posse for short. Even Parsifal would be better.

daisypond · 02/06/2018 14:31

It's the child that has to be brave, not the parent. Poseidon also wasn't a very nice god - vengeful, spiteful, angry, aggressive, etc.

PrincessoftheSea · 02/06/2018 14:42

I would feel so sorry for a poor child given a name like that

KickAssAngel · 02/06/2018 14:45

People can be as brave/original with names as they want, and I don't see why a mythical god can't be used.

BUT - this particular one? I'm a teacher. Your kid will have other kids calling him Pis I Done over and over and over. It will help your child to build resilience, and, of course, the other kids are the ones in the wrong and should be dealt with. But it's not an easy name to live with.

JohnnyKarate · 02/06/2018 14:48

My friends little boy is called Percy. Just Percy nothing else. It's fine and a lovely name.

Don't lumber your kid with Poseidon, who is known for having a terrible attitude and a shitty narcissistic personality.

embarassedmom · 02/06/2018 14:51

Do you just hate the male species OP?

AS was insightful

Don't lumber your kid with shit just because they are male.

deadringer · 02/06/2018 14:55

Dreadful.
In fact 'dreadful' would be a better name.

DunedinGirl · 02/06/2018 15:01

The God Poseidon was a total dick in the myths, so it wouldn't be one i'd consider. If you're looking for Greek sea-related god types starting with 'P', there's always Proteus.

Grasslands · 02/06/2018 15:10

I loved the movie!
I’d be calling him Don.

TheHobbitMum · 02/06/2018 15:11

Dear God don't do it, although I'm sure this is a pisstake!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/06/2018 15:11

If I met a child with the misfortune to be called Poseidon, I would assume he had pretentious parents with delusions of grandeur and no empathy.

daisypond · 02/06/2018 15:14

Maybe you could drop the Po and call him Seidon, with Percy as a nickname - clutching at straws. Or just call him Percy.

Twopointsforhonesty · 02/06/2018 15:15

Go for it Cronus. Congrats. I’m really glad you and Rhea. managed to sort things out.
