I'm expecting boy/girl twins and these are our current favourites. What do you think of them? Any other suggestions are gladly welcomed Smile

Don't like Hermione as I only think of Harry potter and don't see it as a name now because of it. Lysander was on my list a while back and is gorgeous.

NordicNobody · 28/04/2018 14:07

Hermione is too Harry Potter for me as well I'm afraid. Lysander is cool but I'd think hard about whether people will shorten it, and what to. No one wants to be nicknamed Lice...

Tiggerzz · 28/04/2018 14:10

I always thought Lysander was a girls name Shock

BossWitch · 28/04/2018 14:11

Hermione is awesome, what's wrong with Harry Potter? Lysander can be Xander for a nn.

I like 'em. Are you posh enough to pull it off? I know I'm not!

industguishable · 28/04/2018 14:15

I have to admit I'd wonder if you'd mistaken Hermia for Hermione, as Midsummer night's dream is my only ref for Lysander.

I love Lysander but would be twitchy about 'Lice' too, Hermione is OK, but I reckon if you're brave enough for Lysander you could do better ;-)

TammySwansonTwo · 28/04/2018 14:15

I like the names individually, but with both together it’s quite full on.

People may also think you mean Hermia and Lysander but have it wrong, but that’s not really a pairing you want to make for twins!

user1495884620 · 28/04/2018 14:17

My first thought was, aren't they two of the lovers out of Midsummer's Night Dream? Which is a bit icky for brother and sister. But I have checked and that was Hermia and Lysander, but the yuk thought is still in my head for that combination.

SophieofShepherdsBush · 28/04/2018 14:17

The man who made husbands jealous by jilly cooper.

TroubledLichen · 28/04/2018 14:19

There was a Hermione AND a Lysander when we took DD to the Scott Dunn ski kid’s club. So if you also enjoy a budget busting ski trip be prepared that your children might one of several with the same name. But as for the names themselves, I do really like them.

LoveInTokyo · 28/04/2018 14:24

Makes me think of Jilly Cooper too.

Both names are quite a mouthful - would you shorten either of them, and if so, to what?

Growingboys · 28/04/2018 14:25

Bit pretentious tbh.

IreneWinters · 28/04/2018 14:26

Hermione is in The Winter's Tale, so I still think Shakespeare. Together, they're a bit full on but nice so long as they will be going to school with kids called Hugo and Arabella rather than Kayden and Lily-Rose.

TheKimJongUnofFeminism · 28/04/2018 14:27

Hermione's OK- I know one known as Mi. But Lysander is awful. And together I would find it hard not to giggle. I wouldn't, obviously, but it would be a bit of a struggle.

ShmooBooMoo · 28/04/2018 14:32

I'd only choose names like that if you are surrounded by Tarquins, Xaviers, Tristrams or Allegras, Rosalinds and Persephones. They sound super posh to me and maybe a bit too try-hard.
Also, Hermione sounds a bit like hymen to me which is instantly off-putting.

JennyOnAPlate · 28/04/2018 14:37

Too jilly cooper for me!

ShmooBooMoo · 28/04/2018 14:37

I like the name Eppie for a girl but most people would probably laugh at it. I think that's a shortened version of Eponine, maybe. I came across it years ago when reading Silas Marner.
In the end, I suppose, you go for what you like Smile

TatianaLarina · 28/04/2018 14:37

Love Lysander and I know a really cool one.

Hermione’s awful tho and it’s too like Hermia - it sounds as if you’re naming siblings after lovers.

What about Hero? Or Beatrice? As you seem to like Shakespeare.

Or Sebastian and Viola.

llangennith · 28/04/2018 14:40

Agree with pp: both lovely names but a bit full on together.
Hugo and Hermione?
Lysander and Lyra?

spritethecat · 28/04/2018 14:40

I hadn't considered the Hermia/Hermione thing. In my head they seem quite distinct, but written down they probably are too similar. I'm not really a nickname planner; if they happen, they happen so I don't have anything planned for them but I do like Mina/Mya for Hermione and Sasha for Lysander.

DH has vetoed Tabitha, which would have been my favourite for a girl. Does anyone have any other suggestions that I might like?

Love them both and together. Go for it!

TatianaLarina · 28/04/2018 14:45

They’re both derived from Hermes.

It just sounds like MSND is the inspiration.

NekoShiro · 28/04/2018 14:46

I love both of them, they're such nice name to say aloud and I find them refreshingly different. Did you pick them because they're from books you've enjoyed or just cus of how nice the names sounded and they stuck with you?

Chinesecrested · 28/04/2018 14:47

Very posh. Hope they're going to go to a posh private school otherwise they might get the rip taken out of them

TatianaLarina · 28/04/2018 14:49

My friend Lysander went to a comprehensive and was completely fine.

SealSong · 28/04/2018 14:50

Very full on, sounds a lit 'try hard' like you're out to impress
