I'm expecting boy/girl twins and these are our current favourites. What do you think of them? Any other suggestions are gladly welcomed Smile

toobreathless Another Lysander mother, and I love his sisters' names too. This is making me wonder if I have a Lysander we'll need to have another two children afterwards to make it up to four!

It wouldn't bother me if my children wanted to go by common nicknames, or use their middle names (David and Margaret). It's their choice after all. I can only go by my experience, which is having a very boring name and hating it.

I love them both.
Ophelia would be amazing with Lysander too!

CamillaTurner · 01/05/2018 18:48

Love them both. I hadn't thought of Harry Potter, but now it has been pointed out, that would be my only reservation. Octavia? Eustachia (after Eustachia Vye)? Rosalind isn't normally a name I'd go for, but it also works well with Lysander.

I love Lysander but DH was having none of it.

Hermione is a beautiful name, and I don’t see the issue with the Harry Potter association. She’s a fab role model.

I think they sound great together for twins. 100% go for it

I actually know a few Hermione's and none are 'posh' infact it's more a young mother name around here. I like it but hate Harry potter so wouldn't use it myself.

I love Lysander but I've asked here before and every one hated it. Though you've had quite a few positive responses so maybe it's growing on people. I've never met a Lysander

If I had had a second son , John would have been favourite. Oh do what you wish - not sure Hermione and Lysander would be my choice , but then they they are not my children. I wish you well with the twins - I think David and Margaret are great names - had I had a girl I would have thought about Margaret - nn Margo.

Mousefunky · 08/05/2018 15:36

Very pretentious. Every child will link Hermione to HP. I don't mind Hermione but that would put me off. Lysander is far too try-hard and this is coming from someone with a degree in English literature Grin.

Lysander is far too try-hard

Trying too hard to do what? Find a beautiful name?!

TatianaLarina · 08/05/2018 18:21

No-one ever defines what ‘try hard’ means.

IVflytrap · 08/05/2018 23:51

Lysander is far too try-hard

Yeah, no one should ever try hard, god forbid. From now on stick to Oliver and Olivia, everyone: we wouldn't want it to seem like we put any effort into choosing our children's names.

Coolaschmoola · 09/05/2018 00:10

Like both, but as an English teacher I'd just assume you'd made a mistake between Hermione and Hermia. IMO it's too clise for comfort.

Sorcha pronounced 'Sorica' is lovely with Lysander.

SchmooBooMoo The "Eppie in the coal hole" from Silas Marner was baptised Hephzibah / Hepsibah, a Hebrew name from the Bible meaning "She is my delight".

eloisesparkle · 09/05/2018 17:14

Sorcha is an Irish name.
Is Lysander Greek ?

Coolaschmoola · 09/05/2018 19:48

Sorcha is Gaelic and both Scottish and Irish. Lysander is a Latinised version of the Greek Lysandros - if it matters.

My name is Hebrew, my brother's is Greek - noone has ever cared. They go well together.

neighbourhoodwitch · 09/05/2018 19:49

bloody perfect! x

talimom500 · 11/05/2018 03:35

I like Lysander; it’s different but cool. Hermione would be great except for Harry Potter. That would bother me, but perhaps you’re ok with it.
