Our baby girl is due in June. We're stuck on names. Help! Which do you prefer?

Matilda

fearfultrill · 07/03/2018 15:41

Matilda definitely! I think Marissa is a bit dated.

Littlechocola · 07/03/2018 15:43

You will be forever correcting Marissa from Melissa.

DramaAlpaca · 07/03/2018 15:44

Marissa is lovely, and much less popular than Matilda, which I also like.

I used to know an Italian girl called Marisa, which she pronounced the same as Marissa. That's nice too, and a bit less frilly than Marissa.

Snipples · 07/03/2018 15:48

Ooh interesting. I thought this was gonna be a landslide for Marissa. Balls. DH will be so smug.

I do really like Matilda but just think it's getting very popular now. Decisions, decisions.

Marissa, definitely. I've always liked it, plus I know 3, maybe 4 Matildas, but no-one called Marissa.

Glumglowworm · 07/03/2018 16:41

Definitely Matilda

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/03/2018 16:45

Matilda flows from the tongue more easily.
Marissa would probably get confused with
Melissa

AnyaMoondial · 07/03/2018 16:45

I know Matilda is popular but it is fantastic. I can not imagine regretting using this name.

IVflytrap · 07/03/2018 16:46

Marissa is beautiful.

Yogagirl123 · 07/03/2018 16:50

Both lovely names, I love Marissa, only ever known one and she was a lovely girl.

Redrosebelle · 07/03/2018 16:51

Marissa is beautiful. I like both but Marissa gets my vote!

chezmk1988 · 07/03/2018 16:51

Marissa

Godowneasy · 07/03/2018 17:02

Marissa. Or Alissa?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/03/2018 17:49

Matilda, though I do like Marissa.

Sophronia · 07/03/2018 18:20

Marissa is a bit more interesting as it’s less popular

CPtart · 07/03/2018 19:03

Marissa, its more of an adult name in the long run.

Pemba · 07/03/2018 19:03

Marissa is nicer, IMO, and Matilda is too popular at the moment.

Biscuitsneeded · 07/03/2018 19:05

I find Marissa a bit twee, but Marisa much less so, weirdly. I like Matilda very much.

onemoremummy · 07/03/2018 19:05

I think Marissa is lovely, Matilda is also nice but too popular!

emmaliz · 07/03/2018 19:07

Marissa. Love it. It sounds softer too

Snipples · 08/03/2018 04:59

Oh a few more for Marissa now! Thanks for the responses.

My thinking re Matilda is that it's becoming very popular and there will be lots of little Matilda's in her class etc. and also I just see it as a little girls name (no offence intended to any Matilda mums out there).

Our other main option is Beatrice.

All lovely. I also prefer Marisa to Marissa, though it won't be so consistently pronounced if you are in the UK. I also think of Matilda as quite popular, but tbh I don't actually know a single one of any age. If you pick something that you think is 'out there', usually about 5 other couples will do the same - Matilda is a great name. Til is a lovely NN.

userabcname · 08/03/2018 06:01

Matilda

GrainOfSalt · 08/03/2018 06:36

I have a lisp so am very glad I wasn't named anything with a 'sss' in it. It limited my choice of names for DC too - so I would go with Matilda Grin
