So having decided on Tasmin, our dd hugged my tummy today and said "My Darla". Meant darling of course but after a quick Google I found it's a real old English name. DH and I jokingly said dd's named her sister but it's really grown on both of us and it's a cute story to tell her when she's older. We don't discuss names with others IRL so what do you think of Darla? DD is Nancy and I really like the way they sound together...I think!

Nancy and Darla are perfect together. I instantly think of Darla from Buffy.

happytobemrsg · 28/02/2018 14:34

Name GENIUS. Go for Darla, love it

TheVanguardSix · 28/02/2018 14:35

Oh do it, OP! Excellent name, Darla AND excellent story behind the naming of your baby.

daisypond · 28/02/2018 14:41

I understand the sentiment, but I'm not really keen on Darla on first sight. I think it's because it sounds like Darlene, which I can only hear said with some Australian/American accented drawling whine. I'm also hesitant about your DD naming her sister - I'm not sure a younger sibling would like that - that you let a toddler sister name her.

HashtagTired · 28/02/2018 14:42

Darla killed fish in Nemo. Nasty piece of work, she was.

Honkyzeke · 28/02/2018 14:43

Name genius, it's meant to be!

boomboom1234 · 28/02/2018 14:44

I love it

Viewofhedges · 28/02/2018 14:49

If I thought my sister had named me, child me would be furious. I didn’t get to name her! And I don’t like my name. Darla is a nice name but I’d be wary of the cutesy story, for sake of sibling relationship.

YesItsADebate · 28/02/2018 15:22

One of my friends is Darla. She gets called Darlene a lot. Otherwise, she likes it.

SummerRoberts · 28/02/2018 15:25

That is really sweet. Darla is so much nicer than Tasmin. But Tamsin is gorgeous. Better than both of them. Sorry I know you didn't ask that!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/02/2018 15:28

Darlene is terrible. I'm amazed at how many posters like Darla.

villainousbroodmare · 28/02/2018 15:29

It's great! Grin

Sevendown · 28/02/2018 15:30

You should know about the character in buffy and angel because to some people they’ll make that association but she isn’t such a bad character that it should stop you using the name.

She’s evil but in quite a sympathetic way!

MyKingdomForBrie · 28/02/2018 15:34

@DaisyUnPhasey read the sentence again.. choc is saying it’s one of the few names on the mumsnet name threads that she is happy to say she likes..

tothesea · 28/02/2018 15:38

Oh my goodness balloonslayer I remember that story too! I used to pretend to be Darla and scare the shit out of my wee brother!!
However, I do think it is a good name and cute story OP.

BalloonSlayer · 28/02/2018 15:45

Much prefer Tamsin

Not keen on Tasmin or Darla

ShyPhilosopher · 28/02/2018 17:05

Unfortunately I have only ever heard the name Darla used twice. First time was for a nasty vampire in Buffy, second time for the fish killing niece in Finding Nemo. I am guessing quite a few people will think of one or the other (or both).

Tasmin and Nancy are too similar with their short "a"s.

Darla is perfect! And a lovely story. As long as you don't call DC3 "stinky poo head" at Darla's request. Grin
