Thoughts on Valentina?

And would you expect a girl called Valentina to be a particular nationality?

Love it!
I wouldn't be surprised if she was Italian, but I don't think you have to be. Go for it!

MyKingdomForBrie · 26/02/2018 18:13

I love it. The only one I’ve known was Czech.

MyKingdomForBrie · 26/02/2018 18:13

Oh that’s true actually, her father was Italian!

SneakyGremlins · 26/02/2018 18:14

RPDR fan?

I love the name Smile

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/02/2018 18:14

Not anymore I wouldn't, we live in a multicultural society, where anything goes. Valentina is a very pretty name, I don't like Val, but do like Leni or Tina, as nick names.

Mrsknackered · 26/02/2018 18:16

I really like Valentina, I probably would expect her to be Italian/Spanish (?) but wouldn't be surprised if they weren't.

I also really like Clementina.

ReggaetonLente · 26/02/2018 18:16

I had to google RDPR!

We love the name, but baby will be half Czech (funnily enough) and in laws are worried it sounds too Russian. I just wanted to know if anyone would make that connection! Not that it bothers me in the slightest.

Russian was the first nationality that came to my mind - I don't see that as being a problem but I know some Eastern Europeans do.

pepperpop · 26/02/2018 18:23

Gorgeous name! Italian/Spanish springs to mind.

chezmk1988 · 26/02/2018 18:23

As others have said I would wonder if she had Italian or Spanish heritage but I wouldn't be surprised or cringe if she didn't. I personally love it and had it on my list but I don't think I'm brave enough to use it especially when my 2 boys have such common names. I'm also not a fan of Val as a nn

soundsystem · 26/02/2018 18:25

I love it! I'd assume Italian, but only because the Valentina I know is!

LemonysSnicket · 26/02/2018 18:37

Love it.

holycityzoo · 26/02/2018 18:42

I love it. My family is Italian and I wanted to use it but dh wasn't keenHmm.

tortelliniforever · 26/02/2018 18:45

I know an Italian and a Ukrainian Valentina.

scrabbler3 · 26/02/2018 18:53

Italian.

I love this name.

ReggaetonLente · 26/02/2018 20:21

Glad it’s so positive as it’s the only name we totally agree on!

It reminds me of the drag queen (who is apparently a complete bitch, don't like her at all). But that's not a very strong association. It's nice other than that!

Mind you I'm not a fan of Val, so I think I'd use something else.

SneakyGremlins · 26/02/2018 20:53

Raven She's beautiful though! Grin and looks like Linda Evangelista

RavenWings · 26/02/2018 20:56

Linda Evangelista with a lip sync facemask she won't take off Grin

goose1964 · 26/02/2018 20:58

It's pretty,I'd expect Mediterranean ancestry but not exclusively

firawla · 26/02/2018 20:58

The one I know is Albanian. I like it!

hatefulgreatful · 26/02/2018 20:59

I know a Greek one. 5 years old. gorgeous little girl

SuperBeagle · 26/02/2018 21:09

I'd assume they had Eastern European (particularly Russian) or Italian heritage.

I like it, but its shortenings are pretty dire (Val, Tina etc).

ReggaetonLente · 26/02/2018 21:36

Thanks all. I think maybe in laws were just being a bit moany, although of course implications and associations are different over there. No plans to settle in CZ with the baby any time soon, so I am probably worrying about nothing (as per usual!!)
