Thoughts on Valentina?

And would you expect a girl called Valentina to be a particular nationality?

Love it! I'd assume Italian, but I don't think it sounds out of place not on one

foreverandalways · 26/02/2018 22:00

Absolutely beautiful name.....x

BatFaced · 26/02/2018 22:34

It's ok and fine. Pretty

But with a nickname of titi you are asking for trouble

MrsElvis · 26/02/2018 22:39

Always loved it. Worked on a cruise ship and was shocked by the amount of waiters, waitresses and housekeeping staff that were called Valentine or Valentina. However i still earmarked it as a middle name for DD if she came around Valentine's Day which she then did not

dahliaaa · 26/02/2018 22:44

Many years ago when I was a teenager I had a part time job with a really lovely girl called Valentina so it's always had a positive link for me. Her family called her Lena.

ReggaetonLente · 26/02/2018 22:48

Yes, my (English) dad said that. We’d say it Tee-Tee, if it helps...

But honestly it would be just DH and I calling her that at home. She might hate it, who knows. By the time she goes to school I’m sure she’ll have her own preferred NN, or none!

The only one I know is a social worker from Yorkshire! She is lovely.

Charismatictac · 26/02/2018 22:50

Not crazy about it because it's going to be shortened to 'val' or 'tina'.

Valentina is so long. Suits a boat

Charismatictac · 26/02/2018 22:51

Lina is lovely though.

MyKingdomForBrie · 26/02/2018 22:52

The one I knew was shortened to Vale pronounced (rather beautifully when with an Italian accent) Val-eh

ReggaetonLente · 26/02/2018 22:53

Nice to hear of so many lovely Valentines! We like that it means brave and strong.

Oops, auto correct - Valentinas even!

Lovely! I’d avoid Titi though Blush

BaffledMummy · 27/02/2018 09:44

I think it is beautiful

TatianaLarina · 27/02/2018 09:58

I’d think Italian.

SpottyBrolly · 27/02/2018 10:43

I think it's lovely, it was on my shortlist.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 27/02/2018 13:00

Valentina is lovely as a full name. Titi is a crap nickname.

Nick names come naturally, they are not supposed to be planned.

ReggaetonLente · 27/02/2018 13:24

I know that, Housework. I’ve said that up thread.

Titi is a reasonably common diminutive for the name in DH’s home country. So is Tinka!

Beautiful name, I would think maybe her parents had some Spanish or Italian in them but wouldn't seem strange or surprising if not.

JacintaJones · 27/02/2018 23:41

Gorgeous, I considered it but baby was a boy.

I would have used Lenny as a NN.
Tina is awful.

Strokethefurrywall · 28/02/2018 01:13

Valentina was first on our list for DS2 (but was a boy instead!) and I was going to use the nickname Leni - my mum is Lenore nn Leni so it was a nod to her without actually naming her Lenore.

I love Valentina, it's a stunning name!

frasier · 28/02/2018 01:58

I know a Valentina. The person I know is Romanian and I think it is a very popular name there. Love it.

PonyPals · 28/02/2018 03:38

I know a Valentina. Very Russian name. NN Valya (Valeeya)

HuskyMcClusky · 28/02/2018 04:53

I’d immediately think Russian. (Not that that’s a bad thing!)

TatianaLarina · 28/02/2018 10:07

Tinka is very sweet.
