Thoughts on Valentina?

And would you expect a girl called Valentina to be a particular nationality?

I know 1 half Italian 12 yr old. I think she shortens it to Vally.

Valentina is my favourite girls' name in the world. Unfortunately DP doesn't like it.

I would have used the nickname Leni.

It's beautiful. I would assume Russian or Italian, but as a Latin name I think we British can claim it as part of our shared European heritage! Strange it isn't more popular here.

I have a Valentina in the family her mums English & dad is Greek so I'd always assumed it was a Greek name very pretty name too... the other 2 girls are Florendia & Estelle. Always loved all their names!

I think I thought it was Russian, but it wouldn't sound out of place in the UK - it's only as long and exotic sounding as Gabriella, which seems quite popular at the moment.

Not sure if I would use a short form as I think the full Valentina is more attractive than any other version, but as others have said, one might evolve as you get to know her!

It makes me think of love and valentines day. All positive stuff. I don't really think of a place at all. I do love the name and know of 2 boys with the males versions of the name.

I personally would keep name choosing between yourself and your partner. What family think does not matter.
