There were seven of us at school in my year. I know a couple at work and one socially now.

biddybid73 · 18/02/2018 07:48

None but I have also had to spell my name thousands of times.

MaisyPops · 18/02/2018 07:52

There was 2 of us in my year at school but I think we were on the tail end of the name being popular at that time.

Not an unusual name either.

Then again based on MN I would expect to have met lots of students called Isla, Noah and then lots of what i think of as old people names and I've not yet. So i think MN is probably socially skewed a bit

Devilishpyjamas · 18/02/2018 07:55

None

Glumglowworm · 18/02/2018 13:37

None with my name.

My sister went to school with a girl who had my name spelled differently.

I work in a call centre and I’ve very very occasionally spoken to customers
with my name and it’s always commented on with an air of surprise and “ooh! You’re Glumglowworm too!”

FairyFantastic · 18/02/2018 13:58

one, a few years older than me and spelled slightly different

Thebestdog · 18/02/2018 14:24

One in my year at Primary School while another had the longer form of my name. Know a few on facebook with either my name or derivatives from the longer form of my name.

WTFIsThisVirus · 18/02/2018 14:28

One. And I dont really know her, we just work for the same company. I only know of her because I've received emails meant for her Grin

Natsku · 18/02/2018 14:37

A few but not lots. I remember being quite upset when someone joined my class in primary school with the same name - it was my name!

willisurvive3under2 · 18/02/2018 14:40

I've probably met around 10 in my life - most my age/generation, plus a couple of young girls.

Weedsnseeds1 · 18/02/2018 14:47

I've met two through work ( not the same company, somewhere I had to visit through work) one in UK and one in Ireland. I've come across a couple of others in Ireland, hotel receptionists / waitresses wearing name badges, not ones I was actually introduced to.

Weedsnseeds1 · 18/02/2018 14:49

I'm wondering if I might have the same name as rinceoir actually, as the Irish ones I've come across were all roughly the same age!

BothersomeCrow · 18/02/2018 14:55

I met one when I was about six, then three in a week when I was about 30. Seen it more often in books.

60sname · 18/02/2018 14:56

I have a name that was extremely popular for many years before I was born but then fell out of favour. So five of my teachers shared my first name but none of the other girls. I have met one other woman of my generation who also has it.

BusterGonad · 18/02/2018 15:53

I didn't know any at school or college, then when I was 24 I started a new job and there where two others who started within six months of me, since then I've not met any more but I'm the place I work now there is another who I've not seen or spoken too (about 300 people there). My name isn't unusual as in it's a strange name, but I suppose it isn't used very much, with saying that there's been a famous one and a character on a soap with my name.

Evelynismycatsformerspyname · 18/02/2018 15:57

None, because I have a stupid first name nobody else chose for their baby because it isn't that nice. There is often a reason names are classics - because they are actually nice names. To add insult to injury my sister's have classic names, mine used to get a Hmm reaction from people my own age when I was young, though it doesn't as an adult, because adults don't react like that to names I guess ShockGrin

BusterGonad · 18/02/2018 15:59

I actually like my name, it's a classic but not a popular classic like Charlotte or Victoria. Iyswim!

Tffta · 18/02/2018 16:22

BusterGonad - yy a classic GrinGrin

Yes yes I know we are talking about RL names but some of these look so funny when you look at the MN nickname

LoveInTokyo · 18/02/2018 16:46

Loads. I have a very ordinary name which isn’t unusual in any generation but it probably peaked in the 80s when I was born.

PinkFlamingo888 · 18/02/2018 17:26

I think that my name was in the top 4 the year I was born but there were never any others at my primary school or secondary school until year 9 when 2 new girls both started with my name, although they both used a different variation to me (I’ve always just been my full name but they were shortenings). I come across people with my name through work so it’s defintey not uncommon but I don’t have any friends with my name.

VileyRose · 18/02/2018 17:30

...

happymumof4crazykids · 18/02/2018 17:31

Absolutely loads I have a very 80's name even though I was a 70's child. Most people are a few years younger than me although there were 3 others in my year at school.

lifechangesforeverinjuly · 18/02/2018 17:34

A big fat 0
I've met one in my entire life, from Germany

Bin85 · 18/02/2018 18:14

None personally.
Growing up in 50s and 60s I wished to be a Susan or Janet, now I love having a more unusual name.

UsernameInvalid66 · 22/02/2018 17:07

I've known lots in my lifetime (my name was popular when I was given it) but right now I think I only know 3. One of them uses exactly the same short form as me and the others don't shorten.

I know more (maybe about 6, not all of them very well) who have a different spelling of the long version, but I don't really see that as the same name, it has a different enough "feel".
