What do you guys think of the name Marley rose for a girl?
And which way is better spelling Marley or Marlie?

I definitely prefer 'Marlie'.

MancUnicorn · 07/02/2018 19:24

The only way I've seen it is as Marley, for two boys I know. I'm not really sure which I prefer, maybe Marley because like I say that's the only way I've seen it x

YerAuntFanny · 07/02/2018 19:27

Marley Rose is fine.

Marlie doesn't look right to me but then I've only ever known Marley's so it may just be what I'm used to.

ShortandAnnoying · 07/02/2018 19:27

Marley definitely brings Bob Marley to mind so I'd go for Marlie or Marlee

Amatree · 07/02/2018 19:29

I love Rose but Marley just makes me think of the dog from the film, sorry! Not a big fan of double barrelled first names, could be a bit of a pain for the child and sounds a bit cutesy if she wants to be a barrister!

QueenNefertitty · 07/02/2018 19:31

What about Marnie Rose?

YerAuntFanny · 07/02/2018 19:32

To be fair all 3 Marley's I've known (2 of them are dogs, the other a 9yo boy) are all named in honour of old Bob and it's the first connection everyone guesses just by saying it so you may be on to something there shortandannoying :o

bassackwards · 07/02/2018 19:33

Marley = dog for me too I'm afraid. Marnie is a good suggestion tho!

helpmum2003 · 07/02/2018 19:33

I'm not a fan of Marley but love the Marine Rose suggestion.

Soubriquet · 07/02/2018 19:33

Marley Rose...Glee

ChocolateCrunch · 07/02/2018 19:51

I only know one Marley, and he's a 7 year old boy. Marnie might be a better option.

RavenWings · 07/02/2018 21:07

Marley = dog, Dublin park or singer. If you must use it I'd spell it Marley.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 07/02/2018 21:08

That is surprisingly pretty OP!

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 07/02/2018 21:12

I hate the name marnie. I wasn’t intending it as an double barrelled first name just as a first and middle. Thanks for the input guys. I did just check and it is mostly used as a girls name.

OP posts:
Buxbaum · 07/02/2018 21:15

I’ve only ever encountered male Marleys.

mirren3 · 07/02/2018 21:17

I know a female Marlie, and one male Marley.

Buxbaum · 07/02/2018 21:28

I did just check and it is mostly used as a girls name.

Not in England and Wales.

NataliaOsipova · 07/02/2018 21:31

Marley was the name of Scrooge's dead partner in "A Christmas Carol". Jacob Marley, admittedly, but he is referred to as Marley throughout. He also appears as a ghost in the story, so "Marley Rose" makes me want to finish off with "from the dead"!

Unfortunate connotations, I would say.

extinctspecies · 07/02/2018 21:32

Marley after the soppy dog in Marley & Me?

Or after the reggae singer?

Both male.

BouncethfOFF · 07/02/2018 21:33

No!
Unless you want every dog within a 10 mile radius to come running every time you shout Marley! Shock

GreenSeededGrape · 07/02/2018 21:35

I know 2 both girls. Better spelling I think is Marlee.

LolitaLempicka · 07/02/2018 21:43

I don’t like it all, it has a very ugly sound. It is also very popular with both children and dogs at the moment.

PointlessUsername · 07/02/2018 21:45

I know a male Marley and a female Marlee

Meemzinha · 07/02/2018 22:08

@Sophisticatedsarcasm it's our my short list for our baby girl if she doesn't suit the one we have planned.

I had loads of comments about it being a dog name but I know it to be both.. I don't see it predominantly as a dogs name atall!

It's a beautiful girl name.. And I think the spelling Marley is the nicest. I when I see Marlie my eyes see it as Marnie, which I see you don't like either!

Meemzinha · 07/02/2018 22:10

@Sophisticatedsarcasm just to clarify.. The only dog comments I got were on here when I posted my shortlist. All my family and friends have loved Marley when I have mentioned it Smile
