What do you guys think of the name Marley rose for a girl?
And which way is better spelling Marley or Marlie?

I like it. I'm relatively indifferent to spellings, but the (girl) child I know with this name spells it Mali.

Mali is Welsh, I believe it is like the english Mary/Molly. @MikeUniformMike where are you when we need you!

I think it's a perfectly good spelling, it will just require some correction over time, but shouldn't be hard for people to get to grips with. I know an older welsh Mali, and a young Malin (which is pronounced Marlin)

Saying all of that though, I don't have an issue with Marley

I've only ever known one Marley and they were male.

It's not a female name. Please don't do that thing where people try and pretty up a completely unfeminine first nane with an ultra girly middle name.

So basically the OP doesn't actually care about anyone else's opinion if it differs from her own so this thread is an even bigger time waster then it initially appeared to be.

Enjoy your daughter's chavy name. 😅

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 10/02/2018 10:15

Actually @notanotheremma I just asked if people liked it not weather it was a dogs name which has been over exhausted. I’m all good if people don’t like it. Just don’t really care for people telling me it’s a dogs name.

Most posters didn’t like it-has that helped in any way?

Yidette86 · 10/02/2018 10:32

Have to agree with the posters that relate it to a dogs name.. Same as I think of Luna as a cats name

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 10/02/2018 10:42

@appuskidu yeah somewhat, that and paired with the fact my DD has the same first initial. It is still on my list but at the bottom 😊

I only know male Marleys.

MikeUniformMike · 10/02/2018 12:41

Mali is indeed a welsh name MrsKnackered - it is the welsh form of Mollie and is pronounced Mally.
You could always spell Marley Marleigh to make it look more feminine.

Marli (pron. Marr-lee, or like Marry with an l in it) is a place in wales.
You can also get Marley tiles, should you wish to name the child after where he or she was conceived.

FizzyGreenWater · 10/02/2018 13:28

If you like to be different, don't go for Marley, surely. It's a bit rubbish in the 'different' stakes - bit boring, very masculine, paired with Rose it's totally run of the mill.

Marisol Rose

Marina Blythe

Mordor Happenstance

(ok maybe not the last one)

MikeUniformMike · 10/02/2018 13:37

Marina Blythe sounds like an address

GlubGlubGlub · 13/02/2018 11:47

Ooh Mali is beautiful.

Mamareid09 · 01/04/2024 23:21

Wow! I’m amazed at how many folk have such a crappy attitude!
I have a Marley May. According to these comments I am instant chav (🙄🙄)
and yea, she’s a beautiful wee girl that is nearing 10 years old. Absolutely loves her name and when she hears Bob Marley, she sings her heart out.

I also have a Dulcie Rose too though. Which makes me even more chavvy. Two of the most moaned about middle names on this post.
but Rose for me is special as it is my granny and granda’s last name, my sisters middle name and now my daughters. Marley is May simply because she was born in May, the day before her dad.

I hope if you had a daughter, you went for Marley.
