What do you guys think of the name Marley rose for a girl?
And which way is better spelling Marley or Marlie?

@meemzinha
I like the name. I’m not bothered about people saying it’s a dogs name. So are many other names. I only asked if it was okay for a girls name. In m6 book of names I have it’s under girls. I really wanted to know weather the first and middle go together.

I quite like Marley. It would definitely have to be Marley for me. Marlie just doesn't look right.

Rose is very popular, which may put you off.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 07/02/2018 22:17

@meemzinha
A few of my friends like it. Im not actually pregnant it’s a just in case name. I have a list. The only thing that slightly puts me off is it’s the same initial as my DD and I don’t really like having same initials in the household. It’s an uncommon name which is my kind of style.

Marlee is dreadful

BehindLockNumberNine · 09/02/2018 08:06

I teach a gorgeous Marley. Yes, named for Bob.
The name suits her and she is proud of it :)

blueremembered · 09/02/2018 08:12

Like a pp says it's the full name of a character in Glee.

GlubGlubGlub · 09/02/2018 08:20

It’s awful, sorry. Terribly twee and will date badly

How about just Rose or Marnie? I like Mabel but I appreciate that lots of people might think it’s a bit old laddish.

Marley sounds like a dog's name no matter the spelling.

greendale17 · 09/02/2018 17:54

Marley is a dogs name

MikeUniformMike · 09/02/2018 19:12

Marley. You could spell it Mali to make it look more feminine.
It does sound a bit like you might be reggae fans or dog lovers.

Zaya71 · 09/02/2018 19:28

I like it and only know female marleys. Agree on the dog comments, but it's no different to poppy, molly or Bella which are popular names for babies and dogs and don't seem to cause a problem!

One of the marleys I know is a nn for Amalia, if that's an option for you.

Zaya71 · 09/02/2018 19:29

(I don't like rose as a middle name.)

MikeUniformMike · 09/02/2018 19:36

I don't like Rose as a middle name either. It always seems to be Rose, May or Grace now.
I like Amalia or Malia.
Surname as a first name seems a bit um downmarket.

MikeUniformMike · 09/02/2018 19:36

Rose as a middle name is ok with some first names.

SnugglySnerd · 09/02/2018 19:39

I know both a male and a female Marley both spelt like that.

Mulch · 09/02/2018 19:40

I love Marley not so keen on rose which seems to be the new tag on may

PancakeInMaBelly · 09/02/2018 19:40

Marley is way too "now"

satnc · 09/02/2018 21:15

I know a 3 year old Tarley-Rose!
No keen at all but I prefer more classic/traditional names.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 09/02/2018 21:22

I don’t usually go for popular middle names, my DD middle name is scout. Mine is pretty common, Leanne and my DS is Jamie in stead of James. I like to be different 😂 I can’t think of a middle name that would suit it. I’m aware of the character from glee I’m a big fan 😊 still don’t care it’s used as a dogs name. My dog is called ruby and my friends daughter is ruby but she don’t start spcryjng over the fact it’s used on a dog. Who cares? And one thing that annoys me no end is when people say it will date badly. The generation of kids names now will be the norm when they are 80, so it won’t sound out of place. It does to older people now because they are used to the names most of the elderly generation have now.

We have a male dog called Marley and DS has a female best friend called Marley. The conversations in our house are not at all confusing!! I do love it for both though

I like it Smile

Sooo many names get slated on here so best to just take other people’s views and opinions with a pinch of salt!

If you like it then go with it.

Mrsknackered · 10/02/2018 02:12

I know 2 very newborn Marley's. One male, one female. I like it more for a boy but I don't think it's a ridiculous name for a girl

EdithWeston · 10/02/2018 04:51

If you are in the US, it might have transitioned he'd to a girls name.

But in UK it is a boys name, maybe unisex to those who are very transatlantic in outlook.

If I saw the name Marley Rose, I'd assume it was a boy (surname Rose),

I wouldn't spell it Mali (unless place of conception name)
