Martina?

What do you think of Martina? Sister is Lucia and we wanted a name to match the cuteness of that.

DH likes Frida but I am not sure on that.
Do you like Frida or Martina?
Or do you have a suggestion with an Italian or Latin name to suit?

Martina seems a bit harsh to me.

cricketqueen · 13/01/2018 16:45

It's my sister's name so I have to really say it's nice but she hates it. But tbf we all have really common British names other than her so it does kinda stand out

scotsmumof1 · 13/01/2018 16:51

Lucia is a beautiful name, whereas Martina seems a bit harsher as squoosh says. Maybe keeping with the same vibes, Florence, Isabella, Emilia, Isadora (Dora for short), Carolina or Athena?

I like Martina. I think it's a top 10 name in Italy, so you're in good company. I don't think Frida goes with Lucia. Chiara? Bianca? Serena? Elena? Melissa?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/01/2018 17:33

Lucia and Martina go very nicely together !
❤️ Frieda/Frida, but not with Lucia.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/01/2018 17:33

Marissa is another lovely name.

AmysTiara · 13/01/2018 17:35

I like Martina and it goes well with Lucia.

Vibe2018 · 13/01/2018 17:47

Martina sounds like someone in their 50's to me.

GRW · 13/01/2018 17:53

It means warlike which would put me off.

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 13/01/2018 17:53

I love Marina?

But Martina is ok. I don’t love it but it isn’t awful.

I prefer Frieda but it’s ok.

Flora, Marina, Cara, Cora, Bianca, Josephine?

AnyaMoondial · 13/01/2018 17:55

I know a baby Martina, she suits it beautifully. Mum and Dad have had lots of lovely comments on her name.

Fadingmemory · 13/01/2018 17:55

I like Martina!

Veterinari · 13/01/2018 17:56

Marissa is MUCH nicer
Love Cosima too

RavenWings · 13/01/2018 17:56

Yes as someone said above Martina reads as a name for someone in their 50s or a bit younger to me. I live in Ireland where it would be more common as an age group.

It's an alright name but if you are looking for cute, I don't get that vibe from it. But then I would have also said that while Lucia is lovely I wouldn't describe it as cute. Milly/Molly/Poppy etc would be that to me, cute feels like toddler names while Lucia makes a lovely adult name.

whoareyoukidding · 13/01/2018 17:56

I guess it's my age but it strongly reminds me of Martina Navratilova the champion tennis player

IVflytrap · 13/01/2018 17:59

I absolutely adore Martina. It's been one of my favourite names for quite a while. I think it's sweet without being frilly or fussy, unusual without being "out there" and that suits an adult as much as a child. Plus Marty is a great nickname. I have been told before by people that it's dated, or that it reminds them of Martina Navratilova - which is apparently a bad thing? Personally I think she's a great role namesake.

If you love, it. definitely go with it. Smile

FirstTimeMom12 · 13/01/2018 19:12

Martina does not seem like a good choice seeing all the reactions. Thank you for all input so far! Have started creating a list and need to add some more options to the below, what do you think of these though?)

Lucia and Leila/ Lila
( do the too many Ls matter? thought they sound sweet together even though neither Leila nor Lila are Italian/ Latin)

Lucia and Sybella ( DH not that fond of Bella names in general so not sure how this will rate with him)

Martina is a lovely name, OP.
Original too, which is refreshing.

Yogagirl123 · 13/01/2018 19:19

Martina is lovely, really like it.

RaspberryIce · 13/01/2018 19:47

I'm not keen as it makes me think of Martini or the name Martin which isn't my cup of tea

RaspberryIce · 13/01/2018 19:48

I like Leila/ Lila
