Martina?

What do you think of Martina? Sister is Lucia and we wanted a name to match the cuteness of that.

DH likes Frida but I am not sure on that.
Do you like Frida or Martina?
Or do you have a suggestion with an Italian or Latin name to suit?

latara23 · 14/01/2018 12:03

I know an Italian Loretta

daisypond · 14/01/2018 12:21

Top Spanish names recently: Sofía, Isabela, Bella, Camila, Valentina, Martina, Lucia. Valeria, Emma, Lucia.
Interesting that Martina is now popular in both Spain and Italy. I personally am not keen on Luna as a name. It's a bit hippyish compared to the classic Lucia.

WildCherryBlossom · 14/01/2018 12:21

Martina sounds German to me (have known several German Martinas). Nothing wrong with that, but to my ear it would go better with a sister called Greta, Heidi or Astrid.

Aside from that I have a slight aversion to names which sound like a man's name with a girlie bit tagged on the end (Thomasina etc).

These sound better with Lucia to me: Ramona, Allegra, Marisa, Cosima, Lilian, Clara, Marisol, Yolanda, Sabrina, Anna, Miranda...

MikeUniformMike · 14/01/2018 14:05

I like Martina. I don't like Sybella
Lucia and Leila/Lila is too much.

MikeUniformMike · 14/01/2018 14:06

I like Cosima.

LuluJakey1 · 14/01/2018 14:08

Nina

WildCherryBlossom · 14/01/2018 14:31

Oh yes - Nina. Beautiful!!!

redavocado · 14/01/2018 14:37

Nina is lovely!

I think Frida is probably a little bit too Germanic to match Lucia. I like Martina though - have you though about Marta too?

LadyGAgain · 14/01/2018 19:42

Another vote for Nina!

FirstTimeMom12 · 14/01/2018 22:55

We have put down 3 choices now:
Luna, Lottie and Marina
DH vetoed all other choices.

His favourites in order of preference:
Lottie (I like this for a child but for an adult?)
Luna (need to get over “lunatic” connection)
Marina (sweet but know already 7 Marinas)

Also Luna and Lottie are in the top 100s, how popular are they likely to be? Like to use a name that’s not in the top 100 or at least not in the top 50...

Love Martina

Consideredintrusion · 14/01/2018 23:03

Francesca is a beautiful Italian name.
Mariana may be a martina compromise.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 14/01/2018 23:05

I don't like Martina, sorry.

Lottie is fine, but I'm not a fan of nickname-names, so I would opt for Charlotte nn Lottie.
Luna is nice, but I can see it getting popular
Marina, nice.

I absolutely LOVE Frida! It ticks every box for me.

FirstTimeMom12 · 14/01/2018 23:06

Interesting about Nina, I had a classmate at school named Nina (nickname for Christina) and don’t know why but it just turned me off the name completely. Do like it’s simlicity though
Daisypond, never thought about the hippyish aspect for Luna... Maybe that’s why it doesn’t click with me, something putting me off about it...
Lottie, I like but would my child hate me when she grows up? Does Lottie even compare to Lucia?
Are there other names that sound as sweet as Lottie but feel more grownup?

OP posts:
MamaMotherMummy · 15/01/2018 02:14

Lottie needs a full name. Scarlett. Charlotte. Carlotta. Loretta.

Have you considered Carmen or Carmella?

Mumontherocks1 · 15/01/2018 02:18

Sienna or Francesca

Mumontherocks1 · 15/01/2018 02:49

Lily, Sophia, Rosanna, Gabrielle, Aurora

FirstTimeMom12 · 15/01/2018 10:31

Just came across the name Nuria, pronounced NOO-ree-a i believe.
Would that go with Lucia?
Loved it but have to run it by DH
Seems we like the OO sound in names a lot...

OP posts:
n0ne · 15/01/2018 10:51

I knew a Spanish Nuria, I think it really goes with Lucia.

FirstTimeMom12 · 15/01/2018 10:57

Thank you n0ne, how does this name sound for the UK. Do you like it?
Others’ opinions matter to me as I want her to have as pretty name as her sister’s. Well I consider Lucia pretty...
Thought Luna was sweet, but maybe Nuria is equally nice and goes better with Lucia?

FirstTimeMom12 · 15/01/2018 11:15

Wow I know I’m going crazy 😮 but knowing my love for the OO sound in names I came across the name Lutie and I love it

Will that work?
Lucia and Lutie
Just don’t know what the meaning is and where it is used...
So we have:
Lucia and Luna
Lucia and Nuria
Lucia and Lutie ( love this more than Lottie)
Which one will work best? Do you like any of these?

OP posts:
WildCherryBlossom · 15/01/2018 12:01

Nuria is a fantastic choice. I have a Spanish friend called Nuria.

WildCherryBlossom · 15/01/2018 12:02

I'm afraid Lucie sounds like a toddler's mispronunciation of Lucy to me.

RaspberryIce · 15/01/2018 12:09

Luna out of those

RavenWings · 15/01/2018 12:16

Luna for me too.

Nuria is alright, but I don't like Lutie. Reminds me of a flute or a lute.
