Martina?

FirstTimeMom12 · 13/01/2018 16:05

What do you think of Martina? Sister is Lucia and we wanted a name to match the cuteness of that.

DH likes Frida but I am not sure on that.
Do you like Frida or Martina?
Or do you have a suggestion with an Italian or Latin name to suit?

A PP mentioned Serena. I recently met a Serenna which I really liked and think goes well with Lucia.

SwinginFromTheChandelier · 13/01/2018 19:53

Lillia....

RyvitaBrevis · 13/01/2018 19:58

Not sure about Sybella but how about Silvia?

I also liked Martina.

NoStraightEdges · 13/01/2018 20:00

Love Frida!

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 13/01/2018 20:42

I rather like Sybilla. You might also like Sabina.

WildRosesGrow · 13/01/2018 20:47

I love Flavia, worked with a few women with that name in Italy. Martina seems a bit hard, not as pretty as Lucia.

Yika · 13/01/2018 20:48

Frida is a lovely name. I don't like Martina so much.

Sibylla is great, unusual.

Cassandra
Livia
Mara
Franca, Francesca
Stella
?

RavenWings · 13/01/2018 20:55

I knew a Chiara, which I always thought was pretty. I wouldn't be well up on the currently popular names in Italy though!

n0ne · 13/01/2018 21:47

I love Frida but it's Germanic, not Latin/Italian. I actually like Martina quite a lot. Or what about Claudia or Silvia?

SuperBeagle · 13/01/2018 22:36

I don't like Martina.

Lucia and Chiara
Lucia and Alessia
Lucia and Alessandra
Lucia and Isabella
Lucia and Bella
Lucia and Bianca

LarkDescending · 13/01/2018 22:59

I knew an Italian Sibilla which I think is nicer than Sybella.

Love pp's suggestion of Sabina.

FirstTimeMom12 · 14/01/2018 07:14

DH loves Luna
Will Lucia and Luna work?
Not certain due to the lunatic connotations but it can grow on me...

OP posts:
nuffsenuff · 14/01/2018 07:22

Luna is too similar.

Emilia is beautiful - and Latin/Italian
Gabriella
Petra

FirstTimeMom12 · 14/01/2018 07:27

We cannot use Emilia which I love btw as we have one already in our close family

Another name I like but not so much DH is Cynthia nickname Thia

For Lucia we use her full name all the time so Luna will not share any nicknames, just the same Lu start...

OP posts:
FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 14/01/2018 08:58

Luna is too similar. Cynthia is nice.

Elena, Carina, Carlotta, Clara, Lydia, Oriana, Sabina, Flora, Elisabetta, Paula, Marina, Maria, Leontina, Claudia, Antonia, Vittoria, Cosima, Eliana, Ada, Alma, Emanuela, Noemi, Francesca, Federica, Leona.

Names like Frida and Luna are imo Greta, Diana, Freya, Ottilia, Flora, Juno, Selene/a, Stella, Heidi, Helga, Erica, Ida, Alva, Karina, Marit(a), Annika...

FirstTimeMom12 · 14/01/2018 09:23

FreddieClaryHorshieLion and nuffsenuff, totally understand the similarity between Lucia and Luna, but when I call them out loud I don’t get them mixed up at all, I find the S in Lucia is quite strong and that makes them distinct enough for me despite their similarity...

Other options though not our favourite at the moment are:
Lucia and Nora
Lucia and Nelly
Lucia and Junia
Lucia and Arabella (although we prefer 2-3 syllable names usually)

LadyGAgain · 14/01/2018 09:42

Alessandra is lovely. Aurelia was Julius Caesar's mother (Latin and Italian).

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 14/01/2018 09:45

I like Nora. :)

But I’m very fond of names like this in general... (Nora, Flora, Cora etc)

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/01/2018 09:54

Elisabetta is gorgeous.

pilates · 14/01/2018 10:12

Eleanora (nn Nora), Rosa or Siena

nuffsenuff · 14/01/2018 10:28

Rosalie

LarkDescending · 14/01/2018 10:44

Fenella?

RaspberryIce · 14/01/2018 11:11

Aurelia is nice

FirstTimeMom12 · 14/01/2018 11:43

Love Aurelia but DH doesn’t
He tends to like shorter names like Luna, Lilou, Leila/ Lila, Lottie (last one I find a bit too cutesy)...

Thought I can suggest Greta too I saw in a reply post but I don’t find it as grand as Lucia is to me
Luna was the one we both thought it’s interesting, he loves it in fact.
How bad is it if we went with Luna as a sister to Lucia?
Leila is another option and the Nora but we don’t love these

If you're pronouncing the S in Lucia, that would maybe indicate you're using the Spanish pronunciation, as the Italian is more like Loo-chee-uh. Maybe you should be looking at more Spanish names for DD2.
