Tadhg, Joshua or Shay?

Obviously a fan of Irish names but I don't have much of an Irish heritage so does it seem a bit daft? I like biblical names too but know so many Noah's etc so maybe Joshua?

Opinions please?!

Also do you think people would get mixed up with Shane which I really don't want.

Shay is lovely.

BuzzKillington · 09/12/2017 10:20

I like Tadhg.

Shay is just awful, sorry.

Magpie24 · 09/12/2017 10:21

I like Joshua Best

JacintaJones · 09/12/2017 10:22

Joshua.

Blackteadrinker77 · 09/12/2017 10:23

Joshua

The other two remind me of fight club for some reason

RedBlackberries · 09/12/2017 10:25

Fight club Grin!? (I've never seen it)

How do you even pronounce Tadhg?

RedBlackberries · 09/12/2017 10:28

Tag

Joshua

The others are awful

EspressoPatronum · 09/12/2017 10:31

I love tadgh it was on my list for ds! Though it's not tag, it's like tiger without the er. So tie-g? Hard to explain!!

It's still on my list for hypothetical DS2!

Blankscreen · 09/12/2017 10:34

Ok on that basis then Joshua is the best.

Shay makes me think of a cross between a shire and dray horse.

Tadhg and he'll.spend is life telling people how to spell his name and being asked how to say it. Call him Tag if you like that as a name but not with an awkward spelling.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/12/2017 10:36

You might find people struggle with pronouncing Tadgh. I'm not hugely keen on Shay (personally).

I love Joshua though. I think it works well for little ones and grown ups.

RedBlackberries · 09/12/2017 10:38

I think I'm leaning more towards Shay or Joshua because of the pronouniation issues anyway. The only Tadgh I knew called himself Tag but he was brought up in England (with an Irish parent).

Joshua is lovely

theothersideoftheworld · 09/12/2017 10:39

I may be biased but I love Joshua!!

Marcine · 09/12/2017 10:40

Tadgh (T-eye-g not Tag) is a bit much if no Irish heritage though I do like it. Joshua much nicer than Shay and not that common at the moment.

Mulch · 09/12/2017 10:50

Shay is just lovely. What about Shilo?

LivLemler · 09/12/2017 10:52

I like Joshua, and Tadgh - but please pronounce it properly if you go for it, it's not Tag.

Not a fan of Shay.

LivLemler · 09/12/2017 10:54

Other Irish names that may be easier as they're phonetic in English or have accepted English spellings include Liam, Conor, Eoin, Aidan etc. Just in case you wanted to expand your list!

RedBlackberries · 09/12/2017 10:55

I like the real pronounciation now I know it!!

Not keen on Shilo as it sounds a bit feminine to me..

Love Connor!

I'm not massively keen on any of them but Joshua would be my choice

Unfortunately I've been put off Shay as the only child I know with this name is a complete pain in the arse!

Shutupanddance1 · 09/12/2017 10:59

I’m Irish and I love Shay - it’s my uncles name tho so not on my baby list.

I know so so many Joshua’s all under 4 atm tho - as it’s very popular I’d consider that part as well.

There are lots of gorgeous Irish names, I wish you well!

DiegoMadonna · 09/12/2017 11:15

I like Joshua best, of the three. There are lots of biblical names that aren't Noah or Joshua though, you know?
