Why am I so scared of the name?!

Maybe scared isn't the right word. So our baby boy is due in a week (first baby). We have a Scandi name (husband is Swedish) and I like it! It's strong and unusual. And it's the only one I got interested/excited about when searching through the same 10 baby boys names. But I care SO much about what others think, that I get nervous at the idea of announcing the name. Is this ridiculous? Or normal? Is it a warning I should take note of? I wish I could be less of a conformist Look, it's not saddling baby with a freaky name, it'll be fine be on his CV and our families love the name. I just have a morbid fear of other people scoffing/being derisive about the name. Then again, my friend told me people had an opinion (sometimes negative) even on the most common/sensible of names with her boy! I've even considered asking UK adults with this name (Facebook) how they felt/feel about it. Which I know is mental. Aaaaaargh!

Because my friend's son is heavily into sci-fi adventure comics, I happen to know of "Magnus, Robot fighter", a martial arts hero who battles any rogue robots used for evil purposes (and who can break steel with his bare hands)!!

Magnus as a name is regarded, therefore, as extremely cool by many kids.

I've got a 9yo Magnus. I still feel a bit embarrassed when people say 'oh, Marcus, that's nice' and I correct them.

It's a marmite name for sure. Someone told me it was a bit boasty - which was odd as their son was called Rex.

Downsides - it has quite a hard sound
Children can't say it - always comes out as Mag er nus. He dislikes being called Maggie but his friends do it anyway. Gnu hasn't caught on despite my best efforts!

Magnus is a great name! I thought you were going to say something far more unusual which might cause spelling problems or something. Aside from the Marcus confusion^^, Magnus is a well known name in the uk as well. Magnus Magnusson is well known.

I love Magnus, my Swedish best friend has a brother by the name and i think it's great!

But I think you have to figure out why you're so unselfconfident & dependent on other people's opinions - that's a very stressful place to be.

He's here and he's absolutely perfect! Our little Viking. He will be bilingual so he can be a "genuine" Magnus (not hipster Magnus! We're London based and definitely not keen to have a hipster baby!)
