Why am I so scared of the name?!

Maybe scared isn't the right word. So our baby boy is due in a week (first baby). We have a Scandi name (husband is Swedish) and I like it! It's strong and unusual. And it's the only one I got interested/excited about when searching through the same 10 baby boys names. But I care SO much about what others think, that I get nervous at the idea of announcing the name. Is this ridiculous? Or normal? Is it a warning I should take note of? I wish I could be less of a conformist Confused Look, it's not saddling baby with a freaky name, it'll be fine be on his CV and our families love the name. I just have a morbid fear of other people scoffing/being derisive about the name. Then again, my friend told me people had an opinion (sometimes negative) even on the most common/sensible of names with her boy! I've even considered asking UK adults with this name (Facebook) how they felt/feel about it. Which I know is mental. Aaaaaargh!

Fantastic name!

DramaAlpaca · 25/10/2017 22:05

I love Magnus, it's a good choice.

Hastalamorte · 25/10/2017 22:06

Magnus is fab, congratulations! Thought you were going to say Sander or UlfGrin

stellarfox · 25/10/2017 22:06

Great name! Unusual but not unheard of

Izzy24 · 25/10/2017 22:07

Socktopus......

Now there’s a name.

And Magnus is great .

Petalflowers · 25/10/2017 22:10

Magnus is cool.

Pre actually having children, I would have liked to have used Bjorn, but that would have been too radical.

SemperTemper · 25/10/2017 22:10

Love the name Magnus. I considered it for my baby but turned out it was a girl. Good luck and congratulations!

TheChristmasFaery · 25/10/2017 22:13

Ooooo Magnus is cool! 😎

badtime · 25/10/2017 22:15

There's nothing freaky about Magnus. It's not actually even Scandinavian, so it won't stand out as 'foreign' particularly, or at least no more than other Latin names.

NataliaOsipova · 25/10/2017 22:18

Magnus is a great choice! Reference to his Scandinavian heritage, but works well in English. Classic but slightly unusual. Everyone can spell and pronounce it correctly! Winner!

CyrilSneer30 · 25/10/2017 22:22

Fantastic name! I felt the same before DS2 was born about the name Felix (clearly wasn’t aware of just how popular it is now!) and wobbled when he was born, meaning it is now his middle name. I’m struggling with baby name regret 10 months on and wish more than anything he was called Felix, so I would say stick to what you love!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/10/2017 22:24

Fabulous ! 😄

RaininSummer · 25/10/2017 22:30

Yes, lovely name.

thecanaries · 25/10/2017 22:31

I love Magnus . It is my Swedish cousins boyfriends name and he's a big burly Viking.

I would have also considered it but my surname is like King , which would be a bit much!!!

Muse84 · 25/10/2017 23:18

I genuinely feel so much better now! Some of your comments have really made me giggle Smile

My 2yo is called Magnus and we're Londoners. I called him Magnus because they said he was going to be an enormous baby. He is very tall and strong and is also blonde and blue eyed so suits a Scandi name perfectly Grin. Two of the worlds strongest men were called Magnus!

TeachesOfPeaches · 25/10/2017 23:28

Also when we meet people of non European heritage they do seem confused at the name and think I mean Marcus or something else and I have to repeat it a few times.

Sophronia · 26/10/2017 00:03

I thought it might be Magnus when you said it’s a Scandi name! I love it!

verystressedmum · 26/10/2017 00:41

It’s a great name it’s popular enough here, as well as going well with your surname. I’d love to know what your surname is! (I’m half Scandinavian)

CrumpettyTree · 26/10/2017 00:47

Good choice

Topseyt · 26/10/2017 01:11

Magnus is a lovely, strong name. Go for it.

Jaytee38 · 26/10/2017 01:17

Met a few Magnus where in live in Scotland. Also there is a rugby player for Edinburgh called Magnus. Good name. Never heard it mocked her

MegAndSprog · 26/10/2017 07:36

Fabulous name! And not too unusual now in the UK either. I love it, good luck!

funmummy48 · 26/10/2017 07:49

Love the name! ☺

ChocolateCrunch · 26/10/2017 08:01
