I'm pregnant with DC2. We're team yellow and have a good list of boys' names. DD is Flora and i am struggling to find a girls' name I like as much.

I'd like a Scottish link but have discounted Isla, Iona, Eilidh, Ailsa, Fiona, Mairi, Mhairi for either being overused in our area or friends using them.

I need a name with two or more syllables as we have a short surname. I don't mind names that can be shortened. Help!

I took my username from Flora Annie Steel. Her husband was once told that his career was being harmed by his outspoken wife, and that he should "control her". He replied that if the British Government thought his wife could be controlled, he suggested they take her and just try it!

I think Flora and Annie are ideal names for sisters.

Marnie is really nice, and goes well with Flora. What about:

Caoimhe
Alva
Fife (both depending where in Scotland you are!)
Ellis
Eden
Rory (not just a boys name - one of my girls has as a middle name)
Tabitha/tabby

We have a one syllable surname and are Scottish (living in England) my DD is Marna. I love it, is unusual and beautifully Scottish! Also liked Marnie so she could be called that as a NN if she wants.

Caela (Kay-la) or Caolila (Colee-la)? Do bear in mind though that Caol Ila is a distillery and brand of whiskey! (Still love the name though and know someone called this)!

Just reading Osgood Mackenzie 's autobiography/ memoirs of Gairloch in the 1860s and that came up, alongside the Gaelic ones.
