Scottishish names...

I'm pregnant with DC2. We're team yellow and have a good list of boys' names. DD is Flora and i am struggling to find a girls' name I like as much.

I'd like a Scottish link but have discounted Isla, Iona, Eilidh, Ailsa, Fiona, Mairi, Mhairi for either being overused in our area or friends using them.

I need a name with two or more syllables as we have a short surname. I don't mind names that can be shortened. Help!

Seona/Shona, Bridget, Sheila, Ashleigh, Kirsty, Kirstin.

Big Scottish tradition to add Ina on the end of a masculine name. Not sure you want a Thomasina/Donaldina/Jamesina though.

Allyg1185 · 16/09/2017 18:34

What about Murron or Mirren?

lizzieoak · 16/09/2017 18:35

I love Thomasina, it's a great name!

What about Davina?

daisypond · 16/09/2017 18:36

Is Isabella better than Isobel? Less Scottish, though.

Orlaith, fearn, carina, emilia, jessie, iona

CondimentQueen · 16/09/2017 18:39

Erin is nice. I do like that.

Ashley/Ashleigh and Sheila are a bit dated in my mind.

Murren/Mirren is ok but not a name I'd use.

Should mention I am Scottish and living in Scotland so many of these names are very popular!

Nora
Lexie (Alexandra)

Esme

CondimentQueen · 16/09/2017 18:44

I like Alexandra but not Lexie.

Nora rhymes with DD's name so might avoid that Wink

I know two Scottish girls called Senga?

daisypond · 16/09/2017 18:49

Jean? Lesley? Retro cool, I think.
Or Effie? Main character from the Scottish ballet La Sylphide.
How about a name from Robert Louis Stevenson or Walter Scott?

CondimentQueen · 16/09/2017 18:50

Sadie is lovely. It's a bit nicknamey...is it a diminutive of Sarah? Being an 80s girl, there were 8 Sarahs in my year which still puts me off a little.

Not a fan of Senga.

Ishbel, Elsie

Scotstar · 16/09/2017 18:51

Vaila

CondimentQueen · 16/09/2017 18:51

Jean is great but we've got a one syllable surname so it sounds a bit abrupt, which is a shame.

Elsie and Effie are a bit nicknamey/granny for me.

Evelyn? Not sure whether it's originally Scottish but have known a couple of Scots with the name!! And could shorten to Evie.

How about Jetta?

LivinTheHighLife · 16/09/2017 18:54
