Would you call your daughter Ivy if your name was Holly?

Other half set on the name Ivy for our daughter, but my name is Holly.

Worried we'll be inundated with mentions of the Christmas carol for life. But he says I am just being silly...

Thoughts?

No I wouldn't

Soubriquet · 30/08/2017 08:29

I had the same thought with my Dd Molly...

I won't have another one now but I always love the name Ivy

I would go for it.

There's worse matching names and they are both lovely

BossWitch · 30/08/2017 08:30

I wouldn't.

BigGreenOlives · 30/08/2017 08:30

Nope

Chaffinch4 · 30/08/2017 08:32

I wouldn't have siblings Holly and Ivy but mother and daughter is ok, I think. You'll be mummy so they won't get used together that often.

sooperdooper · 30/08/2017 08:34

No itll be the longest running unfunny joke for the rest if your life, don't saddle yourselves with it

Are you prepared for a full month of people singing that song at you every time you go anywhere in December? Being greeted with 'oh look, it's the holly and the ivy' by people? Because to be honest, Id be tempted to do those things, and I have a name with a lot of punning potential so I know how annoying it can be.

So I would say no, unless you're prepared to embrace it and get matching t-shirts made. And still probably no- though they are both lovely names:

Fartypant · 30/08/2017 08:35

YES I WOULD!! That is excellent

TestTubeTeen · 30/08/2017 08:36

OMG, you would be a 365 Christmas! Worse than the MN Christmas threads Grin

Isadora2007 · 30/08/2017 08:39

Siblings? No. Mother and daughter. Yes. Cute if you do like xmas too!

Jooni · 30/08/2017 08:39

No, sorry.

How about Evie, Ida, Iris, Ava, Sylvie, Evelyn...?

Wallywobbles · 30/08/2017 08:52

I would if I were a horse. But it's a nice name so go for it if you want.

Tilapia · 30/08/2017 08:53

Only if you don't mind EVERYONE mentioning it for years and years to come!

PandorasXbox · 30/08/2017 09:44

No don't do it.

Glumglowworm · 30/08/2017 09:48

No I wouldn't

Ecureuil · 30/08/2017 09:51

I know a Holly with a toddler Ivy! I commented on it with a smile but that's the last I thought of it until this thread. It's fine.

MammieBear · 30/08/2017 09:57

Ahh I think it's sweet, you'll only reel off your baby's name to strangers so it won't be an issue outside of the family, I'm sure family will love the connection too that you will both share.

mydogisthebest · 30/08/2017 10:00

No

CrumblyMumbly · 30/08/2017 10:01

Yes I would - I think it's a lovely connection to you - agree siblings would be a step to far! I suppose you could make it another plant/flower to continue the connection in a less Christmassy way - Poppy/Jasmine/Willow etc...
