Be honest: do you like the name Edmund?

Our baby boy arrived yesterday and we have announced his birth (obviously!) and that included his name - Edmund Jack.

My closest friend has outright messaged me and said Edward is much cooler... or I should swap the names around. She then knew I was a bit upset and just said she's joking and "will love him whatever his name" Sad

My mum has said "you can't call him that"... My dad made a comment about being back in the 1920s.

It's just constant and making me really quite sad. I thought people wouldn't be so rude if he was here...

Be honest: do you like the name Edmund?

It will honestly make me consider using something else.

Honestly, I don't love it, but its not offensive or weird, just not to my taste. I do prefer Edward but once he shortens it to Ed it won't make any difference!

Viviennemary · 26/08/2017 19:05

No I'm afraid I don't. It's really antiquated IMHO. I agree with your Mum and Dad. find a different name.

MadisonAvenue · 26/08/2017 19:07

I immediately think of Blackadder when I hear the name Edmund.

I'm not especially keen on it, I like Ed though.

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/08/2017 19:09

Edmund Jack is a lovely name. Edmund is a nice change from Edward. I also like Edgar.

I can't believe how rude people have been about the name your chosen for your lovely son. Ignore family/friends they are rude to comment. Edmund is a lovely name

BertrandRussell · 26/08/2017 19:09

It's a great name. What are you going to shorten it to? I love Ned......

HumphreyCobblers · 26/08/2017 19:09

I like it. I would be impressed at your excellent taste if you were a friend of mine.

But I am SO convinced of my own superior taste that other people's negative opinions about my name choices I just take as an example of how I know better, so I am not particularly swayed by other people's negative reactions.

Ecureuil · 26/08/2017 19:09

No not really. i don't like the way it sounds.

Frustratedboarder · 26/08/2017 19:10

Immediately think of the douche bag sibling from the narnia series.... Sorry!

Spartak · 26/08/2017 19:11

It's ok. Are you planning to shorten it?

RhinestoneCowgirl · 26/08/2017 19:11

I have a cousin Edmund, he and his siblings all have Shakespearean names. Edmund is a baddy in King Lear, so that's what it makes me think of.

Cousin goes by Ed, don't think anyone uses his full name.

Spudlet · 26/08/2017 19:12

I have an Edward, but I do like Edmund as well. Mine is a Ted at the moment anyway (except when he is being extremely wicked and naughty...!). I'd have thought you'll almost certainly end up shortening it while he's little and the beauty of Ed names, to my mind, is that they have so many options, all (imo) lovely!

Congratulations Flowers

Makinglists · 26/08/2017 19:13

If im honest i think of blackadder but Perhaps thats just my age. I love Ed and i think Its a name a person could grow into and make their own without thinking blackadder.

oldlaundbooth · 26/08/2017 19:14

Edmund is great.

oldlaundbooth · 26/08/2017 19:14

I don't think of blackadder when I hear it.

spacefrog35 · 26/08/2017 19:15

No I don't but the great thing is, he's not my son, so my opinion doesn't matter Grin

ASDismynormality · 26/08/2017 19:15

I'm not too keen, prefer Edgar.

DragonBone · 26/08/2017 19:15

Edward would be fab - Eb or Eddie for short x

LorLorr2 · 26/08/2017 19:17

Really sorry but in honesty I think of Edmund as one of those names you joke about like when you're describing a posh person, or otherwise it brings to mind the Narnia books. If you don't care though, you go for it xx

RightOnTheEdge · 26/08/2017 19:17

How bloody rude and mean to spoil your happy announcement!

I like Edmund Jack and the most important thing is that you like it.

Congratulations on your lovely boy. Just enjoy him and forget about everyone else.

DramaAlpaca · 26/08/2017 19:20

It's perfectly fine, not my favourite but fine.

Go with what you love & ignore the rude comments.

Chaffinch4 · 26/08/2017 19:21

Edmund Jack is an excellent name.

Please don't change it because some people don't like it. Your opinion and that of your partner is all that matterstuff and everyone else will get used to it quick enough!

Congratulations!

SinglePringle · 26/08/2017 19:21

I really like it. It would be on my list.

Interesting, cool, different (but not too 'out there') with a variety of nicknames.

Be assured in your choice - it's great and people will have to shut up.

nodogsinthebedroom · 26/08/2017 19:21

I don't like it but it's not awful.

MerlinsBeard87 · 26/08/2017 19:22

Love it, was on the table for my ds.

BuzzKillington · 26/08/2017 19:23

Honestly? It's a mimsy name to me.

But if you love it, go with it.
