Robert & Roberta

I know someone with DC (not twins) who effectively have the male and female version of the same name. Not Robert & Roberta, but just to give an example. Her choice, don't care etc. but I don't understand why you'd give such similar names when there are thousands to choose from.
Would you do it? And why?

Ella and Ellis?

Anthony and Antonia?

It's not something I'd do but it doesn't matter...I suppose the parents wanted to link them by their names.

I went to a school with a Simone.

Always felt the patents were expecting a boy, picked a name and panicked at the last minute.

I do know a Paul and Paula who are a couple. Somehow they make it cute.

MikeUniformMike · 06/08/2017 14:46

Maybe they liked the names. It does seem s bit silly though.
Would Charles and Charlotte be too alike but Charles and Caroline be OK? What about Polly May?

Caroline is a feminine form of Charles. Polly and May are derived from Mary.

If nicknames can be different then I get that, Charlie & Lottie. But these names even have the same short form. Must be bloody confusing!

I know boy and girl twins with names like this. The boy is names after the father, and the girl has an "a" tacked on the end, so effectively three in the house with the same name. You can't really shorten the names either.

I imagine the parents think it's cute, but I wouldn't do it myself.

Either there's en inexplicably high number of Pauls married to Paulas, or half of mumsnet knows the same couple!

Snap8TheCat · 06/08/2017 17:58

I was thinking the same!

Ditsy1980 · 06/08/2017 18:02
