Not pregnant, just thinking

What middle name would you give Seamus? Something simple as surname is quite a difficult Irish name

I want to like Seamus Adam and Seamus Edward but there's something not quite right

Floggingmolly · 27/07/2017 17:56

Leave Finn off it. I hate Finn...

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/07/2017 18:07

I'd go for Seamus Iago Hamish James Surname - Cover the whole of the UK :)

ohforfsake · 27/07/2017 22:52

It sounds too much like semen, sorry.

Floggingmolly · 27/07/2017 22:54

It doesn't sound anything like semen, actually. Have you bothered to RTFT?

buttercup54321 · 27/07/2017 22:54

Patrick
Michael
Connor
Kevin

harrietm87 · 28/07/2017 07:07

Op I love Seamus - if I have a boy that will be his name!

What about Michael, Joseph or Christopher as a middle name? Really like Christopher actually.

DumbledoresApprentice · 28/07/2017 07:36

It sounds nothing like semen. If you have no idea how it is pronounced it's probably best not to make rude comments based on what it "sounds like".

Epipgab · 28/07/2017 10:41

I like Seamus Arthur.

Emma2803 · 28/07/2017 23:41

Loving
Seamus Aidan / Aodhan
Seamus Eoin /Eoghan
Seamus Dara /Darragh

Seamus Heaney is also a fab idea as he was an amazing poet!!!

I definitely think an Irish name sounds better with it to be honest.

PassedTheMoronTest · 28/07/2017 23:48

Joseph.

WannaBeDelgadaToFitInToMyPrada · 28/07/2017 23:48

Seamus Alexander
Seamus Andrew

lol at ''don't do it to a child''. It's James fgs! Meanwhile, only on Mumsnet, Wolf and Cass and Asa get the love.

squiggleirl · 28/07/2017 23:56

If you are going to use this name one day, please remember to include the fada - wrecks my head when people leave them out......

Totallypearshaped · 29/07/2017 00:01

Why don't you call him James, and then he can choose to use Seamus.

Fwiw I'd call him Virgil, or Feargal if you must pretend to be Irish.

Why would she do that when she wants to call him Seamus? And then he can choose to use Seamus. Or james. Or fucking jamiroquai if he feels like it. OP likes Seamus.

Chocolatehamper · 29/07/2017 00:28

I like Aidan, also Irish but more acceptable this side of the water!
I'm the same as you, Irish living in U.K. - wanted an Irish middle name for my daughter, went for Orla!

Marv1nGay3 · 29/07/2017 00:30

Seamus Bartley

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 29/07/2017 00:33

My gorgeous dog is called Seamus so a name beloved of our family. What about Seamus Laighean?

MeanAger · 29/07/2017 00:37

How do you pronounce Laighean? I've never seen that before.

WannaBeDelgadaToFitInToMyPrada · 29/07/2017 00:39

Well Irish and English names are used a bit interchangeably here but I don't know if that would fly in the UK, might be seen as identity fraud. I do know a few Seans who are John/Sean and Williams/Liams. But i think that's only common amongst older men.

I liked Clodagh and Diarmuid but in the end I went for a Greek name and a Spanish name! I pretended to be Greek!?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 29/07/2017 00:43

Laighean pronounced Lane

MeanAger · 29/07/2017 00:45

Thanks judas

Pallisers · 29/07/2017 01:02

Seamus Heaney is really an inspired suggestion.

Otherwise I would go with something more cross-cultural but still commonly used in Ireland over the years. Maybe Charles, Hugo, Gerald, Patrick, Fergal, Michael, John.
