Can someone please explain to me why on earth there is the need to saddle your poor children with a stupid name which will affect them for the rest of their life.

Is there a competition somewhere to have the most ridiculous thing that can be thought of.....why???

Statistically boys' names are much less diverse. My mum has always said this is because people assume their son will have a serious job and need an actual name but girls won't need a "professional" name as much.

Creative can include thinking up unusual ways to research real names. It doesn't necessarily mean making them up. It may mean not just names you've heard currently or that are in your family.

I took 'creative' to mean in the usual sense of the word as you didn't say otherwise. I research historical names in the usual way, so that doesn't apply in any case. Wink

I was the US 10 years ago and girls were named with very unusual and flowery names, boys were all Mike, Patrick, John.....
