Tulip for a girl? What do you think?

Just that really.... what do you think of Tulip as a first name for a girl? Thank you :)

Yeah, I quite like it. Looks nice written down. Could shorten to Lip a la Philip Gallagher in US Shameless...very cool.

She'd be picked on (geddit?). No.

A bit try hard. Doesn't seem as authentic as other flower names. A bit like Daffodil, or Carnation. Doesn't feel right.

Great middlename, sorry.
It's just quite harsh to say, unlike other flowery names.
But then wouldn't want to name a dd after a flower anyway so ignore me.

I like it. I wouldn't choose I myself but it's ok. I say 'Tyoolip' and didn't realise others said 'choolip' though and I don't like that pn as it sounds like 'chew lip'.

I had a pet rat called Tulip.

I find most flower names far too girlie and cute for my taste. Tulip - possibly because it doesn't end in that I-E or Y sound, which I really dislike - is a much stronger name. As the only Tulips I'm personally aware of are the aforesaid BBC journalist and the MP, it seems a strong name for a grown-up woman to me. Tulips are tall (not one of those diminutive ground-hugging plants), usually bright-coloured flowers which look good in all stages of their growth - from buds to full flowers and even when fading and drooping - a good metaphor, I'd say, to wish upon a child.

Never choose a name that will mean throughout her life people will say "Sorry, I didn't quite catch that......" every time she gives her name..........

If you like it go for it, it works as a name it's just unusual that's all. If unusual flower names are your thing have you thought of:
Briony
Dahlia
Zelie
Zinnea

Not a fan because a friend's rabbit had that name, and even on a pet I was thinking 'really??'
Then again, people tend to grow into unusual names and you wouldn't want to have regret in the future if you wished you had stuck with it x

Reading through the thread a few people have mentioned Tulip as an insult. We are all Irish so it must be an Irish colloquialism

As long as your DD doesn't move to Ireland should be ok.

Still not a fan of Tulip though.

It's pretty but imagine her being a solicitor/CEO/head teacher and called Tulip. Cute for a little girl, not so great for a grown woman.

So you decided to search your name and then revive a thread that is 3 YEARS OLD to say people don't make rude comments to your face? If you like your name that's great but it seems odd to come and comment on such an old thread when your name isn't even technically tulip.
