What do you think of the name Margot?

KoalaDownUnder · 20/07/2017 14:04

It is popular on here but I don't like it. I don't like the hard 'g' sound, and the look reminds me of maggot.

ScarletSienna · 20/07/2017 14:04

I read 'Maggot' whenever I see this name! However I actually like the sound so I'm not sure.

Erratica · 20/07/2017 14:04

I think of Penelope Keith in the good life. Ok if you're French though.

sofreakingtired · 20/07/2017 14:05

I really like it, but it's the same style/era as the name I picked for my DD.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 20/07/2017 14:05

Lovely!

LittleWitch · 20/07/2017 14:05

Depends if you think she will grow into it. It's a grown up name, doesn't work on a baby but that doesn't matter, she's only a baby for 5 minutes. Can you imagine her as a teenager, an adult, an old lady? It's quite grand.

onlyhumanafterall · 20/07/2017 14:05

Not keen at all. Never met a real life one although popular on here.

TheHiphopopotamus · 20/07/2017 14:14

Jerry & Margot from The Good Life.

I imagine someone in their early 50's wearing a housecoat with a G&T in one hand and a cigarette in the other. 'Oh, Tom!'.

Jooni · 20/07/2017 14:39

Really like it

MikeUniformMike · 20/07/2017 14:59

I like it.

CakeRattleandRoll · 20/07/2017 15:50

I like it.

mamma2016 · 20/07/2017 15:52

I like it. Could use the French spelling: Margaux.

Bluntness100 · 20/07/2017 15:53

I'm also of the age where I think of the good life. However to be fair, margot Robbie is very famous and I doubt anyone thinks of Penelope Keith when they see her.

NotTheDuchessOfCambridge · 20/07/2017 15:58

My friend had a horrible Step mother called Margot so part of me hates the name for that reason but the other part really likes it.

PotteringAlong · 20/07/2017 15:59

Love it!

Daisy17 · 20/07/2017 16:00

Love it.

Giraffey1 · 20/07/2017 16:03

Sounds like an old-fashioned name to me .... it also has echoes of The Good Life for me, too.

grufallosfriend · 20/07/2017 16:10

I don't like it, especially pronounced the German/Scandinavian way, Mar-gott.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 20/07/2017 16:10

My first though was also 'The Good Life'.

However, then I could see it being lovely for a cute toddler...just not so sure after that? It's quite a 'hard' name, so I assume once she hits school age she'd become Marg or Mags or something, so it depends if you would mind that or not.

I do think it would affect the way I related to her as I'd always hear Penelope Keith's voice & attitude 😂

grufallosfriend · 20/07/2017 16:12

Also, the nickname Marge isn't nice imo

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 20/07/2017 16:34

I like it a lot.

BroomstickOfLove · 20/07/2017 16:35

I love it.

BlondeGinger · 20/07/2017 16:46

It's one of my absolute favourite girls names. Maggie could be cute for short.

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/07/2017 19:14

I like it as long as it's spelt Margot and not Margo. It has a classy feel but I can picture it on a child too. We don't know any

grufallosfriend · 20/07/2017 20:37

But if it's spelled Margo no one will pronounce it as Mar-gott, which can happen with Margot outside of France
