Baby son is a week old. We have two older sons with unusual but easily pronounced names. We would like our third boy to have a similar type of name.
DH favourite was Percy and mine was Rafe. We have vetoed these two as we each dislike each other's first choice.

This is our compromise list:
Asa - was joint favourite but now I'm having cold feet - DH is still keen. Is it too uncommon? Will baby spend life correcting its pronounciation? (Ace-uh).
Jago (Jay-go but dislike nn Jay)
Quentin (nn Quinn)
Sebastian - but bit too similar to our surname.

I have unusual name, which I like but dislike the fact that I have to continually spell it out to others. So want to save my son from difficult pronounciations/spellings.

Which name would you choose?
Or please suggest other names of same style.
Thank you.

Love rafe but completely understand
I think asa is pretty explanatory from the spelling imo and it's v cool!
I'm not so keen on jago bits that's personal choice! A dog springs to mind but not sure why and that's not helpful!
Quentin and Sebastian are lovely too!

Congratulations on your little bundle ☺️

INeedNewShoes · 23/03/2017 17:57

Congratulations!

When I see it written down 'Asa' makes me think of a group of medicines called 5ASAs!

The Jago I know is pronounced 'Yar-go' so you might end up constantly correcting people with that.

I think Quentin is a great name, in fact I've just added it to my boys' shortlist!

Sebastian is a nice name and Seb is a cool nickname. I wouldn't say that it ticks the 'unusual' box though.

So my preference would be Quentin, followed by Sebastian.

A few other suggestions:

Milo
Cassius
Eddison
Tristan

TheUpsideDown · 23/03/2017 18:19

I LOVE Tristan. I wanted this name for DS but husband veto'd it Sad

Quentin is my fave from your list OP. And love Quinn too.

SumAndSubstance · 23/03/2017 18:23

I like Asa. I've come across a couple, though I wouldn't say it is yet common. I agree there's not that many ways you could say it plus people will find ways to mispronounce even the most common of names!

MummaGiles · 23/03/2017 18:27

Rather than Quentin have you considered Quinton?

SquedgieBeckenheim · 23/03/2017 18:31

Quentin is my favourite from your list.
Sebastian 2nd

EweAreHere · 23/03/2017 18:40

Shame about Rafe. Great name!

I would have vetoed Percy as well. It's too pop culture at the moment, with the Percy Jackson series of books/movies still quite popular.

I like Jago.

Quentin is nice, but the 'Quin' shortening makes me think of the girl 'Quin' from Glee now.

Asa is nice, but I would worry about what mean people would turn it into when they're a bit older (Asahole).

AMockingbirdCalledScout · 23/03/2017 18:40

Jago.

OhForCodsHake · 23/03/2017 18:42

Ah shame you vetoed Percy Wink I have one of those, plus a Sidney Smile

littlemissM92 · 23/03/2017 18:43

Rafe!

Ignoranus · 23/03/2017 18:45

Herbie?

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 23/03/2017 18:51

Would you consider Acer? Like the tree. Then the pronunciation/spelling would be a bit easier.

thebakerwithboobs · 23/03/2017 18:57

Asher.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/03/2017 19:02

❤️ Rafe
Asa is nice.
Really like Quinn, but really don't like Quentin or Quinton.

babynugget · 23/03/2017 19:37

I like Jago! Never heard it before - does it 'go' with your their DC names and your surname?

Lilly16 · 23/03/2017 19:49

SuperBeagle · 23/03/2017 19:55

I like Jago and wouldn't think it likely that it'll get shortened to Jay.

GRW · 23/03/2017 19:55

I like Asa but how about Ezra? Dislike Jago and Quentin.

Sylvannas · 23/03/2017 19:58

Sebastian.

Although I'm biased as it's my sons name lol
We also considered Marcus and Logan.
