We have spent most of the day looking at, discussing and playing around with our LONG list of names and think we may have narrowed it down to Otis and Cosima!!!!!

So what do you think....

Eli, Aphra & Otis

Eli, Aphra & Cosima

Like them all apart from Otis. I have a friend called Cosimo (nn coz) but never met a Cosima! Why is it a bad thing to try hard with your child's name, surely everyone does? Seems like a silly critism.

Try hard = a little bit pretentious, obvious trying to be different, showy but not in a good way.

No... some names have an element of trying to be upper class about them which i think cosima does.

Ilikethenamesadie · 28/02/2017 15:50

Otis isn't so bad

BasicBetty · 28/02/2017 16:04

Both names are gorgeous. Brilliant choices!

fruityb · 28/02/2017 16:09

Lovely names - really like Otis.

DavidPuddy · 28/02/2017 16:19

The Cosima I knew pronounced it Coz ee ma. She was German. I always assumed it was a German name. I really like it and I really liked her. I think you made a good choice.

WaitrosePigeon · 28/02/2017 16:19

Prefer Cosmina..

Love Otis!

Rozdeek · 28/02/2017 16:21

Eep so posh.

Horses for courses :)

TreeTop7 · 28/02/2017 16:24

Love them all. I think that Nigella Lawson's daughter with her late first husband is Cosima. Very stylish. Eli reminds me of Under Milk Wood. I like the pp suggestion of Otto too.

JanuaryJuniper · 28/02/2017 17:03

Re "try hard" likethenamesadie in your esteemed option what do you suggest I do to avoid coming across as try hard....

Don't name the baby at all or would that come across as try hard ironic

Randomly pick a name from the baby book

Go for a top 10 name

Or...pick names that I REALLY LOVE and not give a shit if it comes across as try hard cos I'm literally just picking a name that I love!

Can I ask what you do....do you not try to pick a nice name to you not try to pick a name that you love do you not put lots of effort into what will be one of the first things you give your child....their name....the one thing they will have for their whole life??????

Well, if that makes me try hard them YES IM 100% TRY HARD AND PROUD OF IT. I would be ashamed not to try to give my child a brilliant (in my opinion name)

So thanks for your deep and thoughtful input now toodles xxxx

Cosima is pretty but Otis is an American serial killer to me.

Male or female child?

JanuaryJuniper · 28/02/2017 17:31

Don't know yet, will find out in a few weeks

They do sound really pretentious though. Sorry, not helpful. If you love them and don't give a shit, why are you asking others opinions on a public forum?

myoriginal3 · 28/02/2017 18:33

Odd names. You don't know the sex yet?

Isn't there a cat in some cartoon (Garfield maybe?) called Otis? Or is it the puppy??

Don't like either, sorry.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 28/02/2017 18:37

Cosima was Wagner's wife. Otis was the aardvark on cbbc back in the day.
