We have spent most of the day looking at, discussing and playing around with our LONG list of names and think we may have narrowed it down to Otis and Cosima!!!!!

So what do you think....

Eli, Aphra & Otis

Eli, Aphra & Cosima

Never heard it myself personally.

elQuintoConyo · 28/02/2017 19:35

I like both.

The Cosimo I know pronounces it co-see-ma emphasis on the 'co' (and a short sound like 'cot').

JanuaryJuniper · 28/02/2017 19:56

Myself and dh have it down to either the Cozzy mah or Coz eem ah pronunciation as our favourites (there are many legitimate pronunciations) though I think it will more than likely be Cozzy mah Smile

I think they're nice names OP. I wouldn't pick them personally, but if you introduced me to your kids in RL id be thinking how nice they are and how pleasant it is to hear unusual but not bonkers name choices.

So that's a yes from me, but I also really like the name Sadie HTH

JanuaryJuniper · 28/02/2017 20:00

I actually don't dislike the name Sadie just to put that out there Smile we were just teasing previously Wink

motheroftwojedi · 28/02/2017 20:17

Love both names.
My youngest son is an Otis so maybe a bit bias. And we actually did get the inspiration for his name from the lift in the hospital he was born in!!

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 28/02/2017 20:30

I get really irritated with having to spell my name all the time, and people mishearing and mispronouncing it. I've met quite a few people who say the same. So I always favour names that are either mainstream, or spelt phonetically and easy to pronounce, otherwise I think it can end up being a burden for the child.

Otis is OK. I do automatically think of the aardvark, but I guess that cultural reference will pass. Cosima... it's pretty, but I can imagine it being annoying to have as a name.

Faez · 28/02/2017 20:32

Otis also makes me think of the aardvark

reuset · 28/02/2017 21:59

Lawks, OP! Getting ideas above your station using a name like Cosima Angry

reuset · 28/02/2017 22:01

I'd say Co-see-ma, emphasis on the 'see' part. Slight stress only on the 'z' sound. If that makes sense

Ilikethenamesadie · 28/02/2017 22:29

Neither of my children actually called Sadie Wink - I just like the name!

Op you asked for opinions!

JanuaryJuniper · 28/02/2017 22:31

Yes I did ask for opinions doesn't mean I have to agree with them x

Cosima is lovely! I would pronounce it "Coz-ee-mah"

pilotswife · 28/02/2017 23:04

Both fabulous names - love Otis and Cosima is really pretty and striking. Love your other names too and they all go well together

mathanxiety · 01/03/2017 00:50

Wrt pronunciation - COZ-immah is the way the Cosima I know says it. The emphasis on the Cos part is not as strong as the caps suggest but it is there.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 01/03/2017 11:33

Like both names, think they go very well with your older children's names.

Fwiw I would pronounce Cosima as Cozzie-ma, have never met one in RL. Maybe it's because I am well into middle age but don't know the aardvark called Otis but "Try a Little Tenderness" Otis Redding was the first reference that popped into my head.

Speaking for myself I come to the Baby Names section for a nice break from other boards so always surprised when it gets a bit peppery. We can't all like the same names, (does 'try hard' just mean some name that's not in the top 100?).

JanuaryJuniper · 01/03/2017 15:49

Thanks for the input on the pronunciation I think we have settled on Cozzy mah it just feels more natural and rolls off the tongue easier for us!

donkey I think you could be right on your summation re try hard being anything outside top100 for some people Grin

Ilikethenamesadie · 01/03/2017 16:10

One of my daughters top 3 names, one outside top 100 - I just went with names I liked as should you. But don't come on here looking for opinions if you don't want to hear them good and bad.
You can decide on whatever pronounuation you like but people will just say whatever they think it says so get used to many mispronunciations now! One of my daughters has an Irish name and obs this is constantly said wrong. I knew this when I named her tho.

JanuaryJuniper · 01/03/2017 16:22

I already said I am open to opinions it that doesn't mean I have to agree with them!!!!! Also if I think someone is sprouting nonsense I will call them on it. Just because I asked for opinions doesn't mean you can come along say whatever you want and expect me to just shut up and put up!

Regarding the pronunciation I'm just discussing which pronunciation myself and my dh will go with...did I say I was laying down the law on which is the definitive pronunciation??? No I'd didn't!

You seem overly invested in this thread for some reason.

And shouts.... I ALREADY F**iING SAID I LOVE THE NAMES so are you trying to insinuate that I'm actually picking names for my child that I don't really like just to be different because that's bs and you know it!

Unless you have something groundbreaking to add to the thread I think at this stage you need to move on it's coming across a bit weird that you seem to care so much about what I'm naming my child

Ilikethenamesadie · 01/03/2017 18:51

I think your names will suit your children perfectly

JanuaryJuniper · 01/03/2017 20:52

Yawn!

Great picks!

reuset · 01/03/2017 21:51

Donkeys try hard usually means pretentious here.

I know a Cosmia. She is called Cozzie. Her sister Isabel is Izzie.
