Critique our shortlist please!

I like long and mildly frilly names with lots of shortening options. DH likes classic but not boring names. We've agreed on a few:

Dominic
Nathaniel
Rowan
Benedict
Gregory
Laurence
Nicholas

I like Nathaniel best and DH likes Gregory.

Middle name will be Harry and surname is a single-syllable colour.

Thoughts?

Love Nathaniel, Laurence and Gregory. What about Sebastian?

Cakingbad · 10/01/2017 09:26

Sebastien
Jonathon
Benjamin

SoupDragon · 10/01/2017 09:26

I'm not a huge fan of Gregory or Laurence. I actually think my favourite from your list is your choice, Nathaniel. With Benedict in second place.

The name I thought of when I read your thread title was Sebastian though.

Secretlythesame · 10/01/2017 09:27

I like them all except Rowan as I am not a fan of unisex names or names that can be pronounced in different ways. I know that some people love that name though.

Top of your list for me is Dominic.

Have you considered

Sebastian
Gerard
Timothy

(Names of people I know with siblings similar to your list! I do know siblings Dominic, Gregory and Benedict Smile)

DragonitesRule · 10/01/2017 09:27

I second Benjamin

Secretlythesame · 10/01/2017 09:28

It's a clean sweep for suggestion Sebastian! That's got to win some sort of prize surely

5BlueHydrangea · 10/01/2017 09:28

Dominic and Benedict were on our list so I like those!
I think Nathaniel Harry .. goes well.
Although (unhelpfully) other than Rowan which I'm not sure about I like them all!

BertrandRussell · 10/01/2017 09:28

Johnathan
Michael

Freedom2017 · 10/01/2017 09:29

I like Dominic and Nathaniel. Not so keen on the others.

ShowMeTheElf · 10/01/2017 09:35

I like Rowan but don't think it meets your criteria; not classic, not long and frilly, no shortening options.

Sebastian fills all criteria but not on your list?
I like Gregory unless your single syllable colour is Green.
Nathaniel is nice but I don't like any of the shortenings (all of which seem to be used as names in their own right and not classic as such).
..throwing Julian into the mix.

MissClimpsonsTypingBureau · 10/01/2017 09:37

Thanks for the Sebastian suggestions- it's been considered and rejected!

Julian is a good one. In the same vein, what about Marcus.

MiniMaxi · 10/01/2017 09:49

Martin
Maximilian
Tobias
Eugene
Isaac
Leonard
Miles
Ralph

littlepinkmouseofsugar · 10/01/2017 09:49

Robert maybe?

MiniMaxi · 10/01/2017 09:50

Oops posted too soon

From your list my faves are Benedict, Nathaniel and Nicholas

Purplebluebird · 10/01/2017 10:04

I like Nathaniel and Jonathan :)

busyrascal · 10/01/2017 10:06

I was also coming on here to suggest Sebastian

Orangebird69 · 10/01/2017 10:07

Gideon
Gabriel

busyrascal · 10/01/2017 10:09

Or Nathaniel

hoddtastic · 10/01/2017 10:30

Francis? Alistair?

Jooni · 10/01/2017 11:15

Love Nathaniel.

Benedict is nice, and Nicholas and Laurence.

Not too keen on the others, but they're all perfectly respectable choices.

MissClimpsonsTypingBureau · 10/01/2017 12:39

Thank you all - especially for the support for Nathaniel! Love Julian and Gabriel too. Unfortunately working with children means a lot of names crossed off before we start...!

I like Nathaniel, Benedict and Nicholas best, then Gregory and Laurence.

DramaAlpaca · 10/01/2017 13:30

I like all your list apart from Rowan.

Sophronia · 10/01/2017 13:33

I like Laurence, Nicholas and Gregory best. Dominic and Nathaniel are nice too. Not keen on Rowan or Benedict.
