Hi, this is my first MN post Xmas Smile
I would love some advice/ ideas for name of dd2 due next year. Hubby has basically removed himself from the equation as we could literally not agree on one name for our first daughter which caused so much stress that he has now said whatever I want he will go along with (hence I need someone else to bounce ideas off!). I love vintage/old lady names and especially ones that have been in my family.. so this is my list.. and our first daughter is called Beatrice (Bea) so I would obvs like it to 'go' together..

Stella Violet (which would give her same initials as me)
Iris Cecily
Mable Florence
Violet Hope
Cecily Hope
Cosima Iris

Any other ideas? thoughts?
Thanks Smile

Love Nancy and Stella..
How about Harriet, or Bridie... l

This is so helpful, I'm so grateful for your suggestions.. I think my fave from your lists are Ivy and primrose, and I think Constance is lovely as a middle name. I love names which have an image associated with them so flowers etc really appeal to me.
I think that Victoria/Elizabeth are a bit too trad for me singasong.
I'm glad to see positive feedback for cosima which I would pronounce coz-i-ma .. it's one I'm more on the fence with as I worry if it could sound pretentious? No offence to anyone with the name btw just a thought I've had. Also along these lines does Cecily sound pretentious? I heard a mother calling it the other day in a play group and the way she said it gave me cold feet about it.

Anyway I'm so happy to have your thoughts and thank you for your positivity - I've really lacked confidence with the whole naming thing after hubby and my disagreement.

I have a Cecily, really hope it isn't pretentious! We've had lots of compliments on her name and a few 'that's unusuals'!

I've met a lot of Florence's.

I would avoid your DD having the same innitials as you, that'll be a nightmare when she's older, lots of teenage slamed doored arguments about Mum having no respect for her privacy and the like when you accidently open her post...

I really like Violet, and wish I'd put it on my name list when I had my DD! You could have either Vi or Lettie as a nickname if you want it to fit with Beatrice being known as Bea.

DinosaursRoar · 18/12/2016 16:31

oh another suggestion - Agatha.

ScrambledSmegs · 18/12/2016 16:33

Cecily is gorgeous, I wanted it for DD2 but was vetoed (to be fair she's got the right name for her so no big deal).

Others I considered -

Estella
Clarice (nn Clary)
Genevieve
Ada
Verity
Rosamund

DH thought they were all old-ladyish. It was bloody hard finding a name we both liked but we did in the end. Annoyingly some relatives subsequently named their daughter one of the names on that list and he bloody raved about it Hmm

ScrambledSmegs · 18/12/2016 16:35

Oh, and Araminta. I knew I didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of him agreeing to that one though.

Jooni · 18/12/2016 16:39

Beatrice and Cecily are gorgeous together. I really like Violet and Cosima too. Not too keen on Mabel or Stella and Iris is nice but sounds quite similar to Beatrice (no one else has mentioned though so maybe this is just me!)

Sylvie
Romilly
Eleanor
Clara
Susannah
Cora
Margaret
Felicity
Helena

1horatio · 18/12/2016 16:39

Araminta is so lovely. I will shamelessly put that on my list 🙈🙈🙈Blush sorry!

Cluelessmamma · 18/12/2016 16:40

Thanks all and thanks af2000; I never thought of Cecily as pretentious before but it was just the way a mum I heard say it.. I think she was the pretentious one rather than the name! I do really love it (it's been my fave for a while and what I Had wanted for dd1) so that's great to hear your experience with the name!

OP posts:
Cluelessmamma · 18/12/2016 17:13

Out of interest af2000, do you have a nickname for Cecily? I wasn't sure what nickname I would use for a little Cecily, and as my dd1 generally goes by her nn its one of my considerations. And on that note thanks to Dinosaursroar for suggestion of Lettie for violet.. I also hear Etta is a nn for violet but maybe that's stretching it!

Cece is a great nickname for Cecily.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 18/12/2016 17:45

Veronica
Susannah
Viola
Beryl
Marguerite
Vivienne
Dorothy
Ethel

QueenLizIII · 18/12/2016 17:46

Cecily is lovely. I like Cosima too.

Not keen on the rest. Mabel and Iris too old and I know two Violet's under one and it sounds exactly like Violent. Not a pretty name at all.

QueenLizIII · 18/12/2016 17:48

Viola is a lovely alternative to Violet as some suggested it up thread.

af2000 · 18/12/2016 17:48

I have been using Cece a little bit (pronounced Cessy). As a name it has taken a bit of getting used to, as it isn't really heard of at all where we live, but we love it and of course, as they always do, she has really become her name and I can't imagine her being anything else now!

Cluelessmamma · 18/12/2016 18:19

Cece is really sweet af2000!
And I know what you mean about violet queenliz, this was my husbands reservation but I do still love it maybe as a mn.. anyway I've now got lots of food for thought and feel much happier about names! Have a good evening all
