Hi, this is my first MN post Xmas Smile
I would love some advice/ ideas for name of dd2 due next year. Hubby has basically removed himself from the equation as we could literally not agree on one name for our first daughter which caused so much stress that he has now said whatever I want he will go along with (hence I need someone else to bounce ideas off!). I love vintage/old lady names and especially ones that have been in my family.. so this is my list.. and our first daughter is called Beatrice (Bea) so I would obvs like it to 'go' together..

Stella Violet (which would give her same initials as me)
Iris Cecily
Mable Florence
Violet Hope
Cecily Hope
Cosima Iris

Any other ideas? thoughts?
Thanks Smile

Violet is my favourite by a mile from your list. Beautiful, graceful, vintage feeling (while not overly trying to sound so vintage its old lady!) while still punchy.

I love Violet and Mabel but really don't like Stella. I've known several dogs called Stella-that's probably why!!

CheshireSplat · 18/12/2016 23:25

I have an adored aunt Cecily who is called Cec by everyone who knows her.

I have a Constance (tho called Connie) Iris so we must have similar taste. Just outed myself? The names I also love are Nancy, Maeve, Peggy and Maggie.

Love Florence!

I like Maragret as well.

iveabigsecret · 19/12/2016 17:42

A girl I know has a Stella and she's a wee beauty. I think it's a great name. I second Ivy!

I think of the cool girl from 902010 rather than the blue rinse! But I get vetoed in real life.

Bea is lovely too!

Booklover123 · 19/12/2016 19:56

Also Esme?
Heather?

Stella Violet is gorgeous!

BingThing · 19/12/2016 23:03

I love Stella but it's an absolute no from OH! I love the name Beatrice and I think Stella goes well. Also loving Etta and Esme from the suggestions.

Beebeeeight · 21/12/2016 01:27

I think Beatrice goes best with Cosima.

babymouse · 21/12/2016 01:50

Cecily is a really beautiful name.

I also like Stella and Violet.

jeeperdoo · 21/12/2016 02:30

Throwing in an additional thought about finding a name that goes well with Beatrice ... this is hard to articulate without sounding kind of sexist, so please bear with me!

The vast majority of girls' names end with what some argue is a "feminizing" sound, either a soft "ah" or a diminutive long "eee" sound. (How many boys' names [excluding nicknames] end in those sounds?) Many girls' names are in fact simply "feminized" or nicknamey versions of boys' names. This isn't a bad thing! It's just the way our language seems to work; softer-sounding names seem more associated with girls.

You've give your first daughter a lovely name that strays from the "ah" and "eee" tradition, and quite a few of the names on your possibles list are similarly "strong." (Note, I'm using "strong" to refer just to the sound itself, not to imply any sort of masculinity in the names!) I love that the name "Beatrice" also gives the option of both the strong sound and the softer sound by way of the nickname "Bea."

In your shoes, I might at least toss around the idea of giving a similarly "strong"-ending name to daughter the second.

Then again, I've collected non-"ah/eee" girls' names for years, and have one myself, so I'm a bit partial that way.

Just something to think about!

Our niece has just been named Primrose and it's just lovely. Classic, vintage but not too out there!
