Hi, this is my first MN post Xmas Smile
I would love some advice/ ideas for name of dd2 due next year. Hubby has basically removed himself from the equation as we could literally not agree on one name for our first daughter which caused so much stress that he has now said whatever I want he will go along with (hence I need someone else to bounce ideas off!). I love vintage/old lady names and especially ones that have been in my family.. so this is my list.. and our first daughter is called Beatrice (Bea) so I would obvs like it to 'go' together..

Stella Violet (which would give her same initials as me)
Iris Cecily
Mable Florence
Violet Hope
Cecily Hope
Cosima Iris

Any other ideas? thoughts?
Thanks Smile

Oh I adore the name Primrose, how gorgeous!

Tomfunsnumber1trolley · 21/12/2016 20:04

Another with a Cecily, so naturally I'm biased! We've had lots of compliments, a few 'that's unusual' and even 'I've never heard that name before'Hmm. Other names on our short list were Kitty and Isadora which are both suitably vintage. I liked Violet buts it's become very popular so we chose the Greek version of it for her middle name (totally outed myself!).

Buttercupsandaisies · 21/12/2016 23:24

Love primrose & Adeline, Mabel is ok
Nancy is lovely as is Audrey or Evangeline

Really hate Cosima sorry

Not keen on Cecily either I'm afraid - Never ever heard of it and seems made up

Buttercupsandaisies · 21/12/2016 23:27

Flora
Florence
Eliza

Audrey Smile

Tomfunsnumber1trolley · 21/12/2016 23:37

Seems made up!? Yes, what with Richard the third's mother being called Cecily 600 years ago it's clearly a modern, made up name.Hmm

allowlsthinkalot · 28/12/2016 11:33

I have a N ancy, a F lora and a N ell. I wish I had used Ivy.

PrancerForHoney · 28/12/2016 11:53

Marigold and Verity.
Although the Verity I know is a rugby player.

mamabeak · 28/12/2016 14:51

Mabel is the more usual spelling...

All of these are good.

Evangeline, Gwendolen might be other options you want to add.

mamabeak · 28/12/2016 14:55

Cecily is both a flower (Sweet Cecily) and a female form of Cecil.

It can be pronounced [sis uh lay] or [ses uh lay].

Obviously Cecilia is (in origins) the same name. Which dates back thousands of years.

humanfemale · 28/12/2016 15:00

Violet. And also Pearl! Love.

mathanxiety · 29/12/2016 01:30

I love Stella, Cecily and Cosima. Hope is a lovely middle name and would go well with all three imo.
I would avoid giving a second daughter your initials unless the first also has some significant link to you in her name. This sort of thing causes fisticuffs among small girls.

Alternative suggestions:
Elfrieda or Frieda
Agatha
Alice
Aphra
Antonia
Louisa
Tess
Juliet
Dinah
Tamsin
Rosalie
Delphine
Rowena
Helena
Matilda
Theodora

Thanks for all the great suggestions!

That's an interesting point Jeeperdoo, I haven't thought of it like that but now you mention it I think I am attracted to names which don't have the classic 'ah' or 'ee' endings .. I'd love to know which names are on your list in this catagory.

I think I like Mabel or Cecily best with Bea, but I love all of those names and I think they all go well really. Stella is fab.
We have a Margot and looking at Cecelia if we have any more girls. Also on our list; Nancy, Edie, Jemima... and most of your names!
I like that Cecelia is the goddess of music as we're a musical family.

I like the name Iris but it does make me think of eyes (as well as sounding like any eye). Not especially keen on the others but I do like florence and Cecily (florence is quite popular though these days i think). Other names which I think go with Beatrice are Clemency, Jemima, Tabitha, Clementine, Florence, Ada

Nancy!

TatianaLarina · 23/05/2018 11:54

Love Cosima - it’s beautiful and unusual but not too out there.

Love Violet too - goes very well with Beatrice as they are classic Edwardian names, but it’s getting very (too?) popular.

Hate Mabel - other than the old lady associations it’s a very unstylish, dowdy name.

I would go with Cosima Violet personally - stunning.

daisypond · 23/05/2018 16:15

Stella Violet - love Stella, but I don't like Violet at all (small invasive weed)
Iris Cecily - nice
Mable Florence - no. Mabel is the more usual spelling, and I don't like that either -dowdy. Florence is nice.
Violet Hope - no, but Hope is nice. Together it sounds like "violent hope"
Cecily Hope - lovely
Cosima Iris - lovely
