I've gone off my 3 month old's name... Help!

My 3 month old daughter has a name that isn't that common (isn't in the top 100) which I like. I never shorten it, but don't care what other people do, if they used the known shortenings.

There's a NN I honestly never thought of, they're saying it to take the piss (family) but go on to say how she'll get it all her life anyway, so they are starting her young Hmm

I'm thinking of changing it to Grace, I know that's popular, but there's no offensive NNs, is there?

I think Marsehole Mark has a certain ring to it.
He's bullying you, using your tiny baby! What a wanker. Tell him if he ever says Gobby or Gobs again you'll never speak to him again. Gabriella is a beautiful name.

Normandy144 · 22/11/2016 19:01

Ooooh Maggotface Mark, moronic Mark, minging Mark, motherfucker Mark.....shall I go on?

lottieandmia · 22/11/2016 19:01

Gabriella was on my shortlist. Your family sound rude and obnoxious TBH. It's a lovely name. So is Grace but I don't see why you should have to change it just because your family are deliberately being mean.

My name is Sukie. My father's family hate it. They insisted on calling me Spookie when I was young and Sue when I got older. My mother told them to stop but they didn't. My grandfather actually told me to my face that he hated my name and would never call me that. I told him I loathed Sue and it wasn't my name.

My mum told me why she had called me Sukie when I was old enough to understand and I never had any issues at school. In the end I just wouldn't answer them if they called me Sue and always signed cards to them with my proper name.

I decided it was their issue not mine and I love my mum. Keep the name you love

tellyjots · 22/11/2016 19:05

Muppet Mark has a certain ring to it.

BobbieDog · 22/11/2016 19:07

Skid mark would be an appropriate name to call him

Normandy144 · 22/11/2016 19:07

Just out of interest, is Muppet Mark your brother? It sounds like the kind of dickhead behaviour from a brother to wind his sister up. And it's clearly working. You need to ride out the storm, until they get bored of it and also she can stand up for herself.

diddl · 22/11/2016 19:10

3months old & bullied by your family.Sad

Joinourclub · 22/11/2016 19:12

Haha Bobbie, skid mark is great!

GruffaloPants · 22/11/2016 19:31

I've never heard of Gobby as a nickname for Gabriella. I went to school with a Gabrielle and she only got Gabby. Your family of twats would come up with a stupid nickname for any name, I'm sure. If you call her Grace they'll make sure and make a point about "what if she isn't Graceful?"

Gabriella is one of those coveted unusual, pretty names that suit both child and adult,

WineCheeseSleep · 22/11/2016 19:37

I agree with the PPs, Gabriella is beautiful and nobody is going to leap to Gobby, they're just being cruel. You can make any name sound bad by doing that!

Grin at Skid Mark!

TownMouseCuntMouse · 22/11/2016 19:38

Dammit Bobbie beat me to it - Skid Mark was my first thought 😄 💩

amysmummy12345 · 22/11/2016 19:49

I'm with lesta I'd take great delight in making crude nicknames for them eg Cunty Colin, looks like Farage Marge... And I'd roll them out each and every time they called DD any name you don't like, list their names and I'm sure us mumsnet massive can sort out a few names Grin

Dahlietta · 22/11/2016 19:50

I'm a teacher and I've never heard my colleagues refer to a child by a horrible nickname, nor have I ever heard the nickname Gobby Gabby!

There are a dozen Graces where I teach - nice name, but very common at the moment. Stick with Gabriella and tell your family they're rude and a bit weird.

Enkopkaffetak · 22/11/2016 20:00

I know 3 Gabriella's

1 is known as Gabi
1 is known as Gabs
the last is always called Ella

I would never have considered Gobby Gabby or Gobs for a Gabriella.

Its a lovely name BtW (imo nicer than Grace)

Strokethefurrywall · 22/11/2016 20:04

My niece is Gabriella (stunning name by the way!) and her nickname is GG - my sister never liked Gabby or general variations so she was GG from day 1 and 9 years later not one person calls her Gaby.

Tell your family they're utter arseholes.

amysmummy12345 · 22/11/2016 20:05

Sorry didn't rtft, how about singing Sarky Marky went to the parky, rolled in shit coz it was darky! Then every time he calls dd NN say "pooooooohhh" holding your nose before singing it to dd like a nursery rhyme feel free to edit swear word as appropriate Grin bound to wind him up and give him complex about his personal hygiene at the same time!

Pluto30 · 22/11/2016 20:06

I love Gabriella.

I know one who goes by Gabby and one who goes by Bella. Both lovely nicknames. Smile

Tell them to shut up with the Gobby thing. That's just rude. She's only 3 months old, for goodness sake.

hickorydickorycock · 22/11/2016 20:08

Gabriella is beautiful name. Sorry but they are a bit wierd saying that, no? Stick with the name you chose. I have never heard of Gobby Gabby... they would probably just say Racy Gracie.... or Gobby Gracie.... who knows!

SallyGinnamon · 22/11/2016 20:11

Another who loves Gabriella. DD had a friend called Gabriella at primary school and her name was never shortened. (There was a Lottie with nicknames Grotty, Snotty and Potty though).

Love the idea of Skid Mark!!

KERALA1 · 22/11/2016 22:42

That is a lovely elegant name. Don't change - there are loads of graces its verging on dull. Also grace is tough to carry off if you are large - we know ahem a few graces who are not.

They sound horrid - you could make up daft cruel nicknames about any name.

MikeUniformMike · 22/11/2016 22:49

Suggest to them that they are being offensive. I know a couple of Gabrielles, one is Gabby and the other is Gabrielle. Never heard either get called Gobby or Gobs or Gabs.
It's the child's name, and a very pretty one at that. Your daughter does not deserve to be bullied by these dickheads.

ageingrunner · 22/11/2016 22:49

Skid mark definitely wins
And Gabriella is a beautiful name, don't change it Smile

MikeUniformMike · 22/11/2016 22:51

Lead by example. Be strong now and put a stop to the namecalling. That's how your daughter will learn to stand up for herself. (OK she's a bit young now but you'll be an expert by the time she is). Good luck.

Secretspillernamechange · 22/11/2016 22:56

Gabriella is a stunning name - it's on my shortlist (although actually so is Grace!).

Family/Mark are being knobs, you could find a rhyming insult for any name.
