I don't like Mark, it's a bit whiney sounding. I like Peter, I even considered that name myself until my uncle married a lovely lady named Peta, pronounced Peter

I adore the name Peter. You could do the nursery in a Peter Rabbit theme.

Marcus or Markus (German spelling) instead of Mark? (Love Marcus).

Out of those two, i'd say Mark. Peter makes me think of swiss goat-herders from the '70s children's program Heidi.
