Considering this name for DS2. I like the sound of it and don't think its that common. What do you think?
Surname is short starting with K

No. No no no.

But I dislike all hard-G names (Gavin, Gary, Greg).

Lapinlapin · 13/09/2016 11:47

No, sorry.

DramaAlpaca · 13/09/2016 11:49

I don't mind it, actually.

I think of it mainly as a surname, but it's fine as a first name. A bit dated, I suppose, but it's OK.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 11:51

It's quite popular in America, but they they also like the name Trevor so take from that what you will.

It's okay I suppose but there are so many Gavins in my age group that it just sounds a bit blah to me.

usernotavail · 13/09/2016 11:51

Really like it. One of my best friends name think it suits young and old Smile

KoalaDownUnder · 13/09/2016 11:55

^ Mitzy, yep - and Colin is apparently having a revival

Kenworthington · 13/09/2016 11:58

My car is called Colin koala but I wouldn't inflict it on an actual human. Grin

Gavin is just awful imo sorry

GertrudeBelle · 13/09/2016 11:58

Too close to Kevin for me

Tiggeryoubastard · 13/09/2016 11:59

Nothing wrong, not to my taste, but is very 1970's. Gavin's parents have pampas grass, an Austin Princess and they have Vesta curries followed by Arctic roll for dinner on a Thursday.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 11:59

You can't keep Colin down for long! It will always re-appear Grin

dogparkingbus4x4wanker · 13/09/2016 11:59

It's awful.

Ginplease · 13/09/2016 12:02

I quite like Gavin. It does sit in the same history as Gary and Kevin but when I was young the Gavin's were cooler kids. I think it can be used now as a more unusual name.

KoalaDownUnder · 13/09/2016 12:02

Grin Colin is bloody horrendous. All I can think of is colon!

VioletBam · 13/09/2016 12:04

He will be called "Gav"

I can't quite cope with that. But then I'm quite old at 43 and grew up with a lot of Gavins in the 70s and 80s.

It reminds me of shellsuits and Ford Cortinas.

Thumbcat · 13/09/2016 12:17

Drippy and dated, like Barry.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 12:20

Barry is pretty bad isn't it?

KoalaDownUnder · 13/09/2016 12:20

In Australia in 1988, Gav (Gazza) would be found hanging out in front of a servo with Jonno and Bazza (aka Barry). They'd all be eating Chiko rolls and smoking Winnie Blues. At least one of them would have a mullet haircut, and/or a rat's tail. If it was Saturday night, they might have borrowed Jonno's mum's Nissan Pulsar, cos it had a working tape deck for listening to 'ZZ Top - Eliminator'.

PotatoBread · 13/09/2016 12:21

It's a bit 70s for me and not in a good way.

bilboteabaggin · 13/09/2016 12:21

Hahaha Gavin

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 12:22

I'd definitely have snogged all of them. And knowing me it would have been the one with the rat's tail!

P.S what's a servo and a Chiko roll?

Vikkijayne2507 · 13/09/2016 12:22

No sorry not a fan

rainbowstardrops · 13/09/2016 12:23

Agree that it's a bit dated for my liking.

KoalaDownUnder · 13/09/2016 12:26

A servo is a service station - aka a petrol/ gas station

A Chiko roll is...a very unappealing deep-fried thing that sits greasily in the Bain-Marie at servos Grin

Gavin for a boy?
damngirl · 13/09/2016 12:30

Gavin is awful, sorry

Oysterbabe · 13/09/2016 12:31

It's definitely a Barry / Gary kind of a name. It's dying out and I'd be happy to let it.
