Considering this name for DS2. I like the sound of it and don't think its that common. What do you think?
Surname is short starting with K

Gavlarrrrrrrr.

Nuff said.

Cheerybigbottom · 13/09/2016 12:36

I know a Gavin and he is a lovely man. Raise a good sprog and bring the name back Grin

Will it always be shortened to Gav? I like 'Vin' Smile

Tangoandcreditcards · 13/09/2016 12:37

DP is Gavin. Narrows eyes at mitzy

I like the thought of a little baby Gavin, you'd need some 70s towelling babygrows though. Although I toyed with Jeff for DS2 before I saw sense, so don't listen to me.

albertcampionscat · 13/09/2016 12:45

Gawaine? Proper Arthurian name and very underused.

KoalaDownUnder · 13/09/2016 12:46

Gazza, surely?

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 12:49

That snack looks er, so inviting Koala! I bet I'd still have snogged rat tailed Gav though.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 12:49

Tango I'm sure your Gavin is the king of all Gavins! Wink

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 13/09/2016 13:13

Not keen either sorry. If you like Vin as a nn, how about Vincent?

MrsJoeyMaynard · 13/09/2016 13:18

It's a bit too dated for my liking.

worrierandwine · 13/09/2016 13:48

It's not offensive by any means but is of the same ilk as Glen, Simon and Justin - a bit 70's/ 80's therefore slightly dated. If you like it though just go with it, there are far worse names. Huge believer in seeing the baby first though as they have to suit the name chosen for them.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 13/09/2016 14:27

I think Simon and Justin are much nicer names than gavin!

sonlypuppyfat · 13/09/2016 14:30

Love love love it, it's a proper man's name. It's not wet like all the Wilfred and percys that everyone on here seem to love

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/09/2016 14:35

I love when Percy gets suggested. Such a terrible name.

SteviebunsBottrittrundle · 13/09/2016 14:42

I couldn't use Percy as it reminds me of a really horrible character in The Green Mile! I love Wilfred. But it was my grandpa's name, so I'm biased!

KoalaDownUnder · 13/09/2016 14:43

Percy?!

I love it when people go all swoony and say 'ooh, so handsome'. That usually means it's something like Lancelot or Eugene.

DogsAndCatsAndThings · 13/09/2016 14:46

CHAV!

VioletBam · 13/09/2016 14:49

Hmm Only Chavs use the word Chav as an accusation.

Laquila · 13/09/2016 14:52

Koala Gavin is more usually shortened to Gav in the UK - Gaz/Gazza is used for Gareth.

Excellent and very vivid descriptions there though! 😂

SueTrinder · 13/09/2016 14:54

If you're Scottish it's fine. Makes me think of Gavin Hastings.

CatNip2 · 13/09/2016 14:57

Gavin is an excellent name, and if you get a girl next you can call her Stacey.

HettyB · 13/09/2016 16:07

Well it's better than Gavin for a girl...

It's very 70s. Maybe it's due a comeback. I can't get past the memory of a knobber of an ex called Gavin but I appreciate you don't have that association!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/09/2016 17:46

I quite like it OP !

SerenDippitee · 13/09/2016 18:13

Love the title of this thread; Gavin for a girl?!

Do you have any Welsh heritage? Geraint and Gethin are both nice. Or get all Arthurian and go for Gawain...?

MrsGsnow18 · 13/09/2016 20:14

If I met a man my age called Gavin I would think nothing of it, I'd prob quite like it. It's nice name to say. I like G names ( I guess I would since I have one) but I do think it's name that needs a little growing into.
I'd prob be surprised if a friend introduced their little baby as Gavin, but I wouldn't think it's an awful name or anything.

Laquila · 13/09/2016 20:29

How about Galvin?
