Wilder as a girls name

I am due any day now and been pretty set on a name most of my pregnancy but earlier today I heard a parent calling out to their daughter 'Wilder' in the park and I just fell in love with the name.

I couldn't see any threads on here about the name and it seems pretty unusual for a girl. What are your opinions?

OP posts:

Sorry no it's awful,

Vixxfacee · 01/05/2016 00:48

Where did you read me say it was a good choice. Someone wrote that no one could possibly call their daughter that.

I think the name is terrible personally. But it's not my choice. Not sure if it's pronounced while der or will der!

FixItUpChappie · 01/05/2016 01:05

I like it - better that a 40,0000th Isabel, Grace or Ava IMO.

LovelyLungtch · 01/05/2016 01:28

It's a really great name. I'd love to be called Wilder, what are you lot on about with your "poor child" type remarks? Christ you're so fucking rude, some of you. The fact that most people on here who don't like it are being arseholes says everything you need to know OP.

ShmooBooMoo · 01/05/2016 01:29

But to be fair, FixItUpChappie, it's not like she's limited to those three names if she doesn't go with Wilder...

squoosh · 01/05/2016 01:40

'I'd love to be called Wilder, what are you lot on about with your "poor child" type remarks? Christ you're so fucking rude'

Grin Grin

Even if you love the 'name' Wilder you've got to admit that it will create a lot of comment. And not everyone wants a conversation starting name.

PS. If you'd really love to be called Wilder changing one's name is a very simple process. Let us know how you get on.

LovelyLungtch · 01/05/2016 01:47

Right squoosh you're on, I'm doing it. I'm sick of Balonze anyway.

tigerdriverII · 01/05/2016 01:48

Well it immediately makes me think of the manager of L2 football club Northampton, Chris Wilder. So if you'd like your daughter to be named after a middle aged Northern and rather grumpy footie manager, filll yer boots. Don't think I'd go there.

squoosh · 01/05/2016 01:54

I always thought you were too slim to make a convincing Balonz. Everyone knows people called Balonz have overly sumptuous bum cheeks.

LovelyLungtch · 01/05/2016 02:00

Well exactly squoosh, I've always felt like a Wilder trapped in a Balonz's body, now's my moment to finally put things right! I've got the wind up me now, hurrah!

Alisvolatpropiis · 01/05/2016 02:01

Vixx I wasn't saying you thought it was a good choice, more following on from your comment.

ShmooBooMoo · 01/05/2016 03:04

LovelyLungtch

Erm, the OP wrote: 'What are your opinions?' She didn't write, 'Tell me what I want to hear and dress it up in sugary language...'

LovelyLungtch · 01/05/2016 06:23

That doesn't make sense Schmoo. Having manners doesn't = sugariness, does it?

Ankleswingers · 01/05/2016 06:32

Just makes me think of Gene Wilder..who scared the fuck out of me as a kid in Charlie and the Chocolate factory ( Misses the point)

Aside from that, I just don't like the name. At all.

SuburbanRhonda · 01/05/2016 08:29

I couldn't care less about the OP "climbing down", jewry.

I'm just amused that the OP posted asking for opinions and after most people saying no, claiming she's happy with that response because it confirms how hip and rebellious she is.

*...the army of women in here who choose hard-to-pronounce-and-spell Irish names"

Hmm what army is this then? Confused. Sorry you find Irish names hard to pronounce and spell but, really, what has that got to do with anything? Wilder isn't hard to spell or pronounce... Has someone said that? Confused

Was just thinking the same sgoin - insert another nationality into that sentence and think how it sounds. Thought I was maybe being over sensitive so I'm glad someone else said it!

Thatrabbittrickedme · 01/05/2016 09:29

I love a good name thread Smile

(Almost) everyone: no, just no
OP: thank you all so much for the feedback it's definitely my no1 choice now!

Brilliant.

girlinacoma · 02/05/2016 14:24

I love it Smile

Congratulations!

originalmavis · 02/05/2016 14:30

If I heard someone introduced as 'Wilder' my little internal voice would say 'than what?'.

BertrandRussell · 02/05/2016 14:42

"Was just thinking the same sgoin - insert another nationality into that sentence and think how it sounds. Thought I was maybe being over sensitive so I'm glad someone else said it!"

It wouldn't matter what nationality the name was, I would always say that you need to imagine what it would be like to spell and/or correct and/or explain your name every single time you give it for the rest of your life.

That's a little different to "this army of women calling their children hard to pronounce Irish names". Why bring up Irish names? Wilder isn't Irish.

BertrandRussell · 02/05/2016 14:56

I didn't bring up Irish names!

Actually, I chose the Anglicised versions of Irish names for my own children because it is very unlikely that they will ever live anywhere where dealing with the pronunciation or spelling of their Irish forms would be anything but a bore.

LadyAntonella · 02/05/2016 15:04

No Jewry brought up Irish names, I never said you did bertrand Smile.

I found Jewry's comment a bit Hmm and said so. I think you disagree(?) from one of your recent posts and I'm just responding... to your response... to my response to Jewry's post! Grin
