A horrible name? Sad

lulucappuccino · 27/04/2016 14:11

Sorry Finding, I've just read your posts. Apologies.

TheBestChocolateIsFree · 27/04/2016 14:11

You missed the Balonz and Slither threads then lulu.

lulucappuccino · 27/04/2016 14:13

The vegetable name one was good.

Claraoswald36 · 27/04/2016 14:15

I like it. I also like celeste. I think announcing your name as heavenly Jones would be awesome my kids have less ordinary names

onemouseplace · 27/04/2016 14:16

Another one who immediately thought of Virginia Andrews and Heaven Leigh - and not in a good way.

lulucappuccino · 27/04/2016 14:19

Are you an evangelical Christian, OP? If so, maybe go for a biblical name. Not an adjective.

Vixxfacee · 27/04/2016 14:39

Finding so sorry for your loss Sad

That name was perfect for your baby.

I think it's the Joy added which is why the name is getting stick.

Hariasa · 27/04/2016 14:49

green I don't think it's hated but it certainly very unusual. Strangers tend not to hold back in giving their opinion.

If you and your DP love the name go for it, people are rarely so blunt face to face. Just be aware that you may have to bear some raised eyebrows when you first introduce your DD.

People soon get used to unusual names. My own DD's name is a very rare, very old name.

I think this thread is a bit of a racial shocker tbh.

Its "ghastly" unless you are afro Caribbean?? Is that seriously an OK thing to say??

PurpleDaisies · 27/04/2016 15:09

I totally agree with you poocatcher.

Letseatgrandma · 27/04/2016 15:12

I have taught quite a few girls named Heavenly in East London-all have been Afro-Caribbean. It was quite a pretty name and suited them all.

It's not one I'd choose though.

Quityabitchen · 27/04/2016 15:14

Heavenly is a lovely name. I work with people called Comfort and Happy - also lovely names.

Pipilangstrumpf · 27/04/2016 15:38

Heavenly is a fine name. It is easy to say, spell and isn't overused. Finding, very sorry to hear about your loss!

OP, you seem to love the name and find it pretty. I say, go ahead and use it.

Pipilangstrumpf · 27/04/2016 15:39

And no, I personally wouldn't choose it, but I also wouldn't choose some super popular names like Ellie, Ella or Evie. Thankfully we all have different tastes!!

NoCapes · 27/04/2016 15:54

Ridiculous name OP

SuckingEggs · 27/04/2016 16:12

This thread is just Shock

OP, call your child whatever you wish; it's a name you love and who cares what people on here think?

Finding, hope you're ok Flowers

MitzyLeFrouf · 27/04/2016 16:18

I agree she should call her child whatever she wishes but she did ask for people's opinions.

1horatio · 27/04/2016 16:31

I just want to add: it depends on what you like! We may end up calling our child cedric, which most people here don't seem to like either...
But it's your child. If the parents like such an unusual name it's also very possible that the name will suit your daughter very well. I personally think heavenly joy is more of a middle name combination. But maybe I'm just too boring to appreciate it.

nothingreallymatters · 27/04/2016 16:34

Helena/Elaina/Eleanor Joy?

Ellie Joy is cute.

good luck Smile

lcoc2015 · 27/04/2016 16:37

It sounds very religious - i would make the assumption that parents were super religioud

Hariasa · 27/04/2016 17:06

Poo I'm not sure the the majority of people on the thread are racist. In general in baby names threads posters raise eyebrows at very unusual names which are strongly associated with a particular culture being used by someone with no association with that culture.

Previous examples I can think of included very unusual Irish, French and Scandinavian names. They are understandable if you are from that culture but tend to raise questions otherwise.

I have a friend with an unusual Spanish name. Her family have no association with Spain - it's a lovely name and suits her but she's been explaining it all her life.

RiverTam · 27/04/2016 17:54

I don't know if people are being racist but I think this thread shows how very homogenous and, dare I say, provincial, most places in Beitain are that this name gets quite this much invective.

RortyCrankle · 27/04/2016 18:04

Twee and awful but Joy is lovely.

ProphetOfDoom · 27/04/2016 18:06

I like it.

I would assume a strong religious faith.
