Horrendous.

LaContessaDiPlump · 27/04/2016 11:46

For some reason Evangelina Joy sounds quite nice, despite being drawn from the same sort of origin material..... it offends my sensibilities less Grin

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 27/04/2016 11:56

It's awful op sorry.
The poor child will suffer with a name like that.

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 27/04/2016 11:57

YY to the Joy of sex!

Vixxfacee · 27/04/2016 12:00

Heaven just makes me think of death.

Heavenly joy is silly.

I am reminded of heaven Leigh casteel too.

What about Haven?

exWifebeginsat40 · 27/04/2016 12:09

Haven is a holiday park.

Celeste or Celestine Joy are lovely.

Vixxfacee · 27/04/2016 12:15

Celeste is ugly and clunky.

AmysTiara · 27/04/2016 12:28

Celeste is lovely.

insan1tyscartching · 27/04/2016 12:33

My ds went to school with a Heaven-Leigh, she hated the name and was teased mercilessly as a teen. She chose another name to use as an adult.

PinkSquash · 27/04/2016 12:36

Heavenly would be an awful name to be laiden with

FindingTheRightName · 27/04/2016 12:42

I had a still-born named Heavenly. These comments make me sad Sad

albertcampionscat · 27/04/2016 12:43

TigerLily666 · 27/04/2016 13:30

Imagine shouting 'heavenly joy, don't do that' at high volume in the middle of your local supermarket ... maybe better choices out there??

TigerLily666 · 27/04/2016 13:33

Sorry Finding - didn't see your post before replying. Don't want to come across as insensitive. Really sorry about your loss and please don't be sad because people are questioning the name 'Heavenly'. It was right for you and your little one.

DerelictMyBalls · 27/04/2016 13:35

Joy is a lovely name!

RiverTam · 27/04/2016 13:48

Well, I'm in a part of London with a very large Nigerian community, plenty of children called things like Precious, and a lot of biblical names, particularly for boys. So here I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid, and she can always go by Joy if she doesn't like it. Obviously if you're in the sticks it might not be such a great idea, though it's a pity you'd need to take that into consideration. Oh, and Claudia pronounced Cloudier is the German pronunciation.

greenyish · 27/04/2016 13:51

Wow, a little sad about all these negative comments... I know I asked for it, but I wasn't expecting such a negative response.

I do not have a Nigerian background, but I am in the centre of London. I've come across lots of names - Stone, Blue, Venus, Woody, Princess, Duke, etc.

So I didn't realise it would be so hated Sad

Mine was Heavenly Angel (Angel was the middle name).

She was gorgeous, so I of course love the name. I know the circumstances are different, but I find myself saying her name lots, I talk to her little sister (who I'm pregnant with) all about how she looked, etc.

My family and friends say the name fine too. I think some people even think she is actually still here and called Heavenly, they don't say anything. I have met lots of children with unusual names, or names that they will be teased over. They don't get teased over their name, bullies will find anything.

So many children have unique names, wether that's different cultures, etc.

I work in a school, there are loads of names you'd think children would laugh at, but it doesn't seem to happen and honestly, a child makes the name, not the other way Smile

Bambambini · 27/04/2016 13:59

Op, most of us here will be boring white british who call our kids fairly safe, dull traditionally white british names. If culturally your choice fits for you, then don't duscount it necessarily on mumsnet's say so.

It would only be weird the first few times you hear it, then you would think nothing if it. And we have a solicitor in town called Angel and she advertises under that name.

Bogburglar99 · 27/04/2016 14:03

I think when you use nouns or adjectives as a name an awful lot depends on whether they're familiar in the community you live in.

Just thinking about it, in our circle of school friends and family we have a Daisy, a Poppy, a couple of Lilies, a Hope and a Faith. All lovely names of lovely things - but if they were called, for example, Daffodil, Banana, Happiness and Enthusiasm, they would raise more eyebrows. Its not that rational (and I agree with a pp I rather like Comfort, Precious etc as names)

What about the option of calling her Something Heavenly Joy? You could still call her Heavenly if you wanted to, but you and she would have more options if it became a bit of a millstone in later years.

lulucappuccino · 27/04/2016 14:07

Possibly the worst name I've ever seen on this Board! Sorry OP but it's a horrible name.
