I really like Edgar and Hamish, although I think you'd need a Scottish connection for the latter.

TremoloGreen · 13/04/2016 18:05

Oh and Magnus! That's a great name, but I have a cousin called Magnus so it would have been too weird. Also like Angus.

PennyHasNoSurname · 13/04/2016 18:08

We have a Travis.

I would have used Rex but we used it on the cat seven years before (didnt want to save it and not ever use it).

Also liked Gus, Sid, Fox (but that was probably the preggo hormones) and Lawrence.

I have a Fergus. Never met another (but we're not in Scotland/Ireland obviously!)

I've got an Alasdair, not too many of those around although I do live in Scotland!

My 4 month old son is called Magnus and I'm often complemented on having such a strong name. My family hate it though

Izzyathome · 14/04/2016 01:00

Love Magnus.

Also how about;

Archer
Angus
Arto (it's the 'new' Arthur😄)
Conrad
Cormac
Gabriel
Mathias
Fife
Cameron
Ezra
Otto
Xavier

I also love Duncan, Douglas and Patrick for slightly more traditional options that are underused, without resorting to Gary;)

Lancelottie, all the Benjamins around here are in their 20s. It's a name that just came and went about 20-25 years ago it seems. It wasn't replaced by Benedict -- the pope was a bit of a turner-offer.

Alexander was a name that had real staying power however.

velocitygir1 · 14/04/2016 04:32

My son is called Ewan, he is 9 and there are no other Ewan's in his school nor in my daughters high school.
He's named after Mr. McGregor BlushBlush

BettyBi0 · 14/04/2016 08:25

Love Kester! It sounds a bit too close to DC1's name though. Bum!

YY to how much it depends on where you live. I've heard all the 'like but can't use' names locally. Even Atticus - love the NN Atti but DP has ruled it out.

I'm surprised, as there are plenty of under-10 Bens around here (where most families seem to have a default Ben, Rebecca, Alex or Charlotte), which is why I wondered if they were all Benedicts and I'd just not heard their full names.
