What do you think of the name Lydia?

It's the only suitable/things I really like. I want a girl's name that is not only lovely for a little one, but fitting for an adult too.

I like Winfred, but I dislike the shortened name Winnie. I also like Beatrice, but I dislike Betty.

What are your thoughts?

It's my DD name I love it and so does she.

I like it, but there are no pretty or cute shortening a or pet versions, so I wouldn't choose it.

Also worth saying though that if you are considering Beatrice, most girls I know with this name shorten it to Bea rather than Betty.

Lid what do you shorter it to? As Concept has said, I can't think of a cutesy shortening for when she's small

I thought Betty was short for Elizabeth. I've never heard it as a nickname for Beatrice - it's usually Bea. I like Beatrice/Bea and I like Lydia too.

Is Bea pronounced Bee?

Lovely name. Strong female character in the Bible. Classy and ancient.

I went to school with a Lydia and people called her Lid. Is that common practise?

People on Netmums have insisted that's the association people will make when she's in secondary school

I LOVE Lydia it was one of my top names for a girl (but I had a boy). I also had Cora up there if that helps. But Lydia is a lovely name

Helen I did think of Lydia Chlamydia but when I voiced this, most people said they would never make that association. Anyway you can make all sorts of rhymes with so many names it's hardly worth worrying about.

I really like it. My dd is Lucia and when I say it people often say 'Lydia?' if they mishear it.
I think it's pretty. Liddy would be the most likely shortening I would think. Lydia Chlamydia would never pop into my brain but I'm not a teenage girl!

Beatrice is good too.i know a couple and they are both Bea! In fact for ages I thought that was my friends DD's name as she never calls her anything else.

I've never heard of such a thing. But Lydia was quite a popular name in my school (girls only public boarding school), so perhaps it being such a normal and frequently used name meant others were less likely to take the piss out of it in that way.

I wouldn't think chlamydia - I do automatically think Lydia teapot
