What do you think of the name Lydia?

It's the only suitable/things I really like. I want a girl's name that is not only lovely for a little one, but fitting for an adult too.

I like Winfred, but I dislike the shortened name Winnie. I also like Beatrice, but I dislike Betty.

What are your thoughts?

Thank you Smile

I love it. Girl I went to school with was lyd and I always think lydia teapot too.
Lydia chlamydia wouldn't have occurred to me

rightguard · 08/04/2016 19:40

I have a Lydia and it's a lovely name. She usually likes it but she's 7. And today would to like to be called ottoline Confused

pilates · 08/04/2016 19:42

Very nice

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 08/04/2016 19:43

dh vetoed Lydia as a first name for dd due to the song, even though the midwife who delivered her was also called Lydia and had never heard of Lydia, the Tattooed Lady and I insisted it was a sign.

it is her middle name though

i have also never heard of LydiaChlamydia!

Yika · 08/04/2016 19:44

Lydia's a really lovely name.

I would never call a Beatrice Betty for short. I'd call her Beatrice or Bee!

gymboywalton · 08/04/2016 19:46

love lydia
really pretty name

great dean freedman song
and the scene in the fisherking where robin williams sings lydia the tattooed lady is one of the most romantic movie moments ever

MrsUnderwood · 08/04/2016 19:49

I have a Lydia. We named her after Lydia from Beetlejuice and Lydia the Tattooed Lady (the Muppets did an awesome version of it).

Pollaidh · 08/04/2016 19:49

Beatrice can be shortened to Bee or Bea (the latter pronounced bey-a and comes from the French form of Beatrice).

Nibbl3s · 08/04/2016 19:51

I have a friend called Lydia and people shorten it too Lyds or DeeSmile

BingoBonkers · 08/04/2016 19:52

Beatrice nn Bea

SirVixofVixHall · 08/04/2016 19:54

Lydia is beautiful. I don't think all names need a cutey cute nn when a child is small for a start. When I was a child there was a tv series my mother use to watch called "Love for Lydia", I thought Lydia was such a lovely name then, and I still do.

HerRoyalNotness · 08/04/2016 20:29

I prefer the French version Lydie. I know a couple of them and they are very lovely.

Also like Beatrice mn Bea. If I was going to use Winfred I'd probably go Fred for nn or Freddie. I quite like a male nn for a girl for some reason.

mrsschu · 08/04/2016 20:53

I don't like it at all - it sounds dull and very "proper". Wouldn't think of chlamydia though!!

CointreauVersial · 08/04/2016 20:56

Lovely name.

Bagatelle1 · 08/04/2016 21:01

I love it

I think it's beautiful and Lydia chlamydia didn't enter my mind at all.

crispytruffle · 08/04/2016 22:01

I really like it. I have just started my family tree and have discovered this name goes back generations, wish I had known before as I would have used it as a middle name for my DD to carry on the tradition!

JustWantToBeDorisAgain · 08/04/2016 22:03

I have a Lydia, she's Lydie, lyds, but mostly Lula

I love her name and still love it ( I also considered Beatrice nn Bea Or Florence nn glossies or flo)

EarthboundMisfit · 08/04/2016 22:03

DramaAlpaca · 08/04/2016 22:06
