Orry or Cody for a boy

Orianna or Kesha for a girl

DanyellasDonkey · 02/04/2016 17:59

Be careful what you choose. In some people's opinions there's not much between unusual and ridiculous.

Sadly I come from a generation/area where anything remotely unusual or different was greeted with derision from parents or iLs and like the useless meek twit I was, I gave in to pressure.

As a result my DCs have the most boring names imaginable!!

grumpysquash3 · 02/04/2016 17:59

Bathsheba
Hepzibah
Athena

Yuki or Orion for a boy

grumpysquash3 · 02/04/2016 18:01

My DCs have very ordinary names though! Top 50 for the boys, girl is out of the top 100 now, but there are lots of people my age called it.....

I have an unusual name (after a French author) which is a mixed blessing.

Vajazzler · 02/04/2016 18:04

The most unusual name I've ever heard is Louvaine.

IamCarcass · 02/04/2016 18:06

I love Indiana, not did if I'm brave enough to use it. Although I've seen so many say the same thing I'm thinking it's going to become quite common at some point!

JasperDamerel · 02/04/2016 18:07

DC both have quite unusual names. Names that I liked but didn't use include:

Linnet
Ginevera
Sovay
Hepzibah
Zuleika
Scheherazade
Maude
Melusine

Constantine
Clovis
Wulfric
Piers
Gawain

Dellarobia · 02/04/2016 18:22

I like Christian for a boy and Summer for a girl. Last year Summer was at 58th and Christian wasn't in the top 100.

Manon,

Muriel.

Seamus,
Gabriel,
Douglas,
Dougal,
Lucian,
Hector,
Rudy.

AuntieStella · 02/04/2016 18:34

What sort of unusual do you want? It often simply means 'out of fashion':

Joan, Muriel, Donna, Deborah, Pamela, Courtney, Flavia

Roy, Paul, Iain, Neil, Nigel, Wayne, Desmond

JasperDamerel · 02/04/2016 18:42

For out of fashion names, I love Hilda.

harryhausen · 02/04/2016 18:46

Manon - girl

Idris - Boy

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 02/04/2016 18:53

Oh I love Manon for a girl.

Lucien and Silas were on the shortlist for DS2, but DH vetoed Lucien as it sounded a bit daft with our surname. I'm still upset!

PommelandCantle · 02/04/2016 18:58

Some of my favourite names are on here.

If we'd had another boy I wanted to name him Thaddeus -DH said that was instant contraception. Philistine Grin

BoboBunnyH0p · 02/04/2016 18:58

Boy:
Chase
Drake
Lucian
Balthazar

Girl:
Rosalie
Heather
Wren
Griar

BackforGood · 02/04/2016 19:00

Do let us know what you mean by 'unusual' - as AuntieStella says, 'not in fashion at the moment' unusual, is very different from 'weird' , made up / "unique", or really really rare.
which are you after ?

Tatiana11235 · 02/04/2016 19:06

If I ever have a boy I'd like to call him Stanislav. If I ever have another girl I'd like to call her Mila.

I also like Constantine, Dimitry or Igor for boys. Larissa, Tamara or Oxana for girls.

sonlypuppyfat · 02/04/2016 19:14

Hilda is grim, and I speak as one who is related to two Hildas. It always gets shortened to Ild.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/04/2016 19:22

I heard a little girl being called Freda today when out and about. Thought it was unusal and pretty.

Babykr · 02/04/2016 19:28

Hi thanks for all the suggestions Smile as for the unusual I am looking for. We want something that is likely to be the only one in their peer group but something that is very much a name. So not just a word that someone thought would sound quirky as a name! Maybe underused is more the word??

Girls names:

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 02/04/2016 20:21

If you want something unusual. Go for something like Janet or John

PhoenixReisling · 02/04/2016 20:24

What about a name that is from another culture that is easy to say/spell, but is unusual in the way you want?
