What do you do when your partner's favourite name is Jayden...?

I'm not knocking the name Jayden, I actually don't hate it. However, the name gets too much grief, so I'd never want to use it!

DH is insisting; in all fairness, I named DS1 (DH picked the middle name) - we said we would do it the other way around, this time Sad I wish I hadn't!

Jayden and DS1's name, just does not go. I wouldn't want to use Jayden anyway. Also, as I'm picking the middle, he'd be Jayden Oliver... Honestly, I could cope with Oliver Jayden (even though it's not what I'd like) but DH is saying it isn't fair! Blush help!!!

I quite like Aidan Jasper.

Not Jeremy, though my link to the NHS probably puts me off that name in the same way that a teacher would reject Nicky or Michael.

Hainault me too I will not mention Jasper Carrott Grin

If my husband told me I could pick the name I would never insist on a name he didn't like so I would be pretty pissed if he insisted on a name I didn't like.

Imo - I don't mind the name Jaden although I wouldn't use it. Feel its very 7/ 8 yeard ago. However I'd never let my husband pick a name that I didn't like.....not for a child anyway!.... The real life baby you're actually carrying and who's name you will be saying 100 times a day for the rest of your life. Let him control what you call the next pet you get or where you go on holiday....This has to be a shared decision. I'd guarantee that he'd not have been so quiet if he'd hated your first child's name!

I don't think it would be unreasonable to ask your DH what other name suggestions he has. After all, he liked your name choice. Who is to say he wouldn't have protested for you to choose something else, has he disliked it.

Stand your ground and be upfront about disliking his choice of name and request that he comes up with alternatives. It's one thing taking it in turns but another at the expense of a name the other parent dislikes. That's hardly fair is it?

And sorry but Jayden is a chav name.

I googled 'st Aidan and' and it returned st Aidan and Oswald so there's your middle name.

Spandexpants007 · 27/03/2016 20:56

Jago is pronounced Jay-go and would be similar. It's a Cornish version of James.

Isn't Jayden a Biblical name? I know plenty of chavs called Emma and I know plenty of well spoken people called Emma too. Name stereo typing is a load of bollocking.

I think Jayden James works much better then Aiden James personally.

NameChange30 · 27/03/2016 23:43

Aidan James. Lovely.
Thank God you're not calling him Jayden.

Report
ISOanameformyDD · 27/03/2016 23:46

But it wouldn't be Jayden James would it? The OP isn't going to pick two names she isn't in love with. She would pick Oliver, so it would be Jayden Oliver. It's Aidan James because of the agreement, or Aidan J name

I actually think Elliot and Jayden sound good together.

But also think Elliot and Aidan are an even better pair.

I like Aidan John and Aidan James. Jeremy would be my pick for a 3 syllable J name.

Report
winewolfhowls · 28/03/2016 12:03

Aidan is much better.

Jayden unfairly or not has negative connotations.

God, I would never agree to a deal where I name one child and DH names the other - SOOO much potential for that to go badly wrong! What were you thinking? Shock

I don't think it matters whether it's Jayden or something classic like Christopher, the point is you hate it and it's your child, so you need not to hate it.

I think you are going to have to put your foot down, or use emotional blackmail when in or immediately after labour to get your own way. Grin

Find out what his shortlist is and find something else from that that you find quite nice and tolerable, let's say it's Luke for example, (although if his tastes extend to Jayden being a favourite then chances are the others won't be your cup of tea either, but try) and then work on subtly brainwashing him to change his mind to preferring Luke. If he doesn't then just BEG him between contractions/stitches. You have to thing of a solution to this and play dirty if necessary. Shock

I love the name Aidan! I'm glad your DH agreed to it - it's nicer than Jayden (I actually think it's okay, though) Smile

I think it's obvious what his middle name should be. Jayden!

Aidan Jayden is ace! Wink

So lovely to hear the compete slagging off of Jayden as usual. Hmm

I have a Jayden. He's doing his A Levels and volunteers at a group for children with special needs. He's not a "chav" he's a complete geek.

I worry that after his A Levels he'll find it hard to get a job if employers are as narrow minded as MumsNetters.

Anyway, OP, glad you've found a name you both like. Even if it's not Jayden. Grin
