Can I name my child after a vegetable?

My DH has a list of traditional names he wants to call our child. Things like Mary or Sarah if it's a girl and John or Michael if it's a boy.
I've talked to my friends about it and they all seem to think this is a good idea but I have my own list of names that my DH thinks I got rid of.
What I want to know is; are these names good names for a child? So far I've got: Endive, Guava, Pepper, Radish and Zucchini. I like them because they sound exotic and unique.
What do you think?

If you're going to have to be so non-mainstream go full-on hipster:

Clearly Kale is the only option here!

I knew a Bramble once..
And my friends dd has Strawberry for a middle name.
Prefer Banana myself, easier to spell once you learn when to stop!

If you are an arty middle class family, this will be fine. If you are like me common as muck, this is not a good idea.

Loving Okra for a girl, but Rocket for a boy would be awesome!

I think you should go Courgette for a girl, but Zucchini for a boy.

Veg would certainly be unusual, plenty of fruit herbs and spices out there though.

Cherry, Clementine, Sorrel, Paprika, Bay, Sage, Rosemary.... Chard is nice and I like Guava but it is more a fruit than a veg.

I would avoid Pumpkin, Jerk Spice, Gherkin and Ugli Fruit. :x

How about Melonie? Wink

However, I think that Ugli (fruit) would be a poor choice.

Wasn't there a girl called Beetroot on TV last year - daughter of some fearsomely posh bloke doing up a country mansion?

Lettuce is a 'proper' name.

Otherwise, YANBU. Of course you should call your child after a vegetable. I can't believe you had to ask.
