Can I name my child after a vegetable?

My DH has a list of traditional names he wants to call our child. Things like Mary or Sarah if it's a girl and John or Michael if it's a boy.
I've talked to my friends about it and they all seem to think this is a good idea but I have my own list of names that my DH thinks I got rid of.
What I want to know is; are these names good names for a child? So far I've got: Endive, Guava, Pepper, Radish and Zucchini. I like them because they sound exotic and unique.
What do you think?

Celeriac has a nice ring. You wouldn't want a common vegetable name like carrot.

NothingButAHoundDog · 16/03/2016 18:24

Don't forget middle names. You could have awesome combos.
Radish Tomato
Pepper Shallot

Or double/triple barrelled
New Potatoe
Sugar Snap Pea

Igneococcus · 16/03/2016 18:25

Skirret is an old almost forgotten root vegetable, it sounds like it could be a name.

AuntJane · 16/03/2016 18:26

Turnip.

NothingButAHoundDog · 16/03/2016 18:28

Ooh got another one
Heritage Tomato

Fluffy24 · 16/03/2016 18:28

Tomato.

Pumpkin.

Squash.

Cabbage.

CheeseAndSprinkleys · 16/03/2016 18:28

It may be common but I quite like Carrot, now Spud, that's common.

ClaraLane · 16/03/2016 18:29

How about Asparagus - Gus for short? Or Mange-Tout?

dulcefarniente · 16/03/2016 18:29

Lettice - if you look at magazines and books for girls in the first half of the 20th Century Lettice was a very popular name.

LeaLeander · 16/03/2016 18:30

Rutabaga
Courgette
Celeriac
Spud (for that country cowboy rugged effect)
Romaine
Luffah
Kale
Yam
Asparagus (for a boy, gus for short)

Thanks for all the responses. I know a lot of you don't approve but thanks to those who have supported me and even recommended other great names Flowers

Rutabaga!

CorBlimeyTrousers · 16/03/2016 18:31

Go with herbs instead - Basil or Sorrel.

Out2pasture · 16/03/2016 18:32

Fennel

Wasn't Rapunzel named after a vegetable?

JustHereForThePooStories · 16/03/2016 18:32

Name her Tomato, she'll definitely succeed in life.

Picture the scene: London, 2038. Young Tomato goes for a job interview in a top City financial house.

Tomato: Hi. Nice to meet you. I'm Tomato.
High-flying executive-type potential boss robot: Tomato? Like the vegetable.
Tomato: Actually, a tomato is a fruit- not everybody knows that.
High-flying executive-type potential boss robot: I like the cut of your jib, you're hired!

2Offwhitecurtains · 16/03/2016 18:34

Rapunzel was named after the vegetable Rapunzel.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/03/2016 18:35

Apparently rapunzel is a bit like spinach.

Confused
BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/03/2016 18:37

😄 I rather like Chard for a boy.

Chicory sounds like a jolly little girl.

YogaPants · 16/03/2016 18:43

Oooh, Chard's little brother or sister could be Gherkin!

has OP been watching OBEM this week perchance?

mouldycheesefan · 16/03/2016 18:47

Well if unique is what you are looking for, radish will certainly get you there.

Byrdie · 16/03/2016 18:47

Well if you can name your child storm, razor and rebel, why not chard, kale or savoy? Not that i like any of them! Maybe some of the herb names could work. Do you just want something unusual / unique OP, or is there something particularly special to you about vegetables?

LeaLeander · 16/03/2016 18:48

Legume - kind of a twist on the popular Jemima and Imogene

Arugula
Kohrabi - quite dashing for a boy

Okra?

Marrow

in the herb realm there is
Cilantro
Dill
Mace
Borage

Suffolkgirl1 · 16/03/2016 18:48

Lettice is a character in one of the Agatha Christie Books -? Murder at the Vicarage.
