Alternatives to Rex

So, I have an issue! We have a while to go, but Dsis has just had a Rex and that was the only boys name we'd agreed on and now it's completely out. Luckily we hadn't discussed names (agreed not too just in case of this scenario), but I'm now in a bit of a panic.

Current alternatives are:
Arlo (my second favourite, DH hates)
Leo (DH's favourite, I like, but sounds stupid with our surname)
Theo (I like, DH thinks it's too posh)

Can you lovely ladies please suggest something that we might be able to agree on, please?

Cassius
Kit (I think it has a very similar feel to Rex)
Jonah
Sonny

Also adore Rex so OP we have similar taste!

Rex is top of my boys list along with-

Jude
Finn or Flynn (jezzabezza similar taste too!)
Rafferty
Zach
Cormac
Charlie

I like punchy, upbeat, slightly cheeky while still "real" sounding names.

Weirdest comment Ive read in a long while - on this thread " its a name chavs call their dogs" errr what??!

I like Otto but prefer Otis. I love Rafferty, but that also comes under the 'posh bracket' so it's out. I like Raphael with Rafe or Rafi if he wants, but it's another no. Now he might consider Arlo (it's not been popular on this thread!), Vincent, Winston, Otis, Rhett and MAYBE Rafe on its own. I'm at a point where I will be happy with any of these, but he's undecided on them all.

Thank you for all the suggestions, reminders from our original list and the patience!

Definitely out are:
Most C names (due to surname - a few work, but most don't)
Alex, Lawrence (family names)
Rocco (surname)
Kit (our best friends 1yr old DS)
Leo (surname)

I think we'll go for an only child after all this hassle Grin

It says so much about people (ie. dull, lack of imagination) when they just love to comment on any name not John, James or Andy they must therefore be a "dogs name". *Yougotta" you must meet a lot of dogs and watch a lot of porn.

Happy such boring people don't like names I love as means we definitely don't have the same taste Grin

Yeah I'm in agreement with jemima. In fact this thread has made me have more conviction in the name Rex. Back on our shortlist now!

Why is Rhett insane? And I didn't know Otis made lifts, I always think of Otis Redding or that sodding aardvark

Another one here in the Rocco = porn star and Rex = dog camp. It's not being dull, I just hate the names.

Rhett as in Gone With The Wind would be my first thought. I hated him so I wouldn't, personally, but I think it's much better than the two I mentioned above.

Lucas or Luca maybe?

I used to work with a Rhett. He was a real person, he was Jamaican - I have no idea if it's common in Jamaica or if his parents just liked it.

I grew up with heaps of Rhetts (Australia, 1980s). Confused Not uncommon around here, at all. Surfer-type name.

Not that I like it, mind you.

I really love the name Rex. A lot of people have a dog association but that wouldn't bother me.

Hate the name Rocco. It's a bit Footballers Wives.

I've never met a Rhett but I kind of like it. I'd worry though that people would think I was a Gone With the Wind superfan whereas actually I find it a bit of a snooze.

'I love Rafferty, but that also comes under the 'posh bracket' so it's out.'

Rafferty isn't posh! It's an Irish surname so the same as calling your kid Murphy or Flynn or something.

'And certainly not as posh as IGNATIUS!'

Peoples' perceptions of posh are so interesting. I'd never think of Ignatius as being posh. It just sounds very Catholic to me.
