Alternatives to Rex

So, I have an issue! We have a while to go, but Dsis has just had a Rex and that was the only boys name we'd agreed on and now it's completely out. Luckily we hadn't discussed names (agreed not too just in case of this scenario), but I'm now in a bit of a panic.

Current alternatives are:
Arlo (my second favourite, DH hates)
Leo (DH's favourite, I like, but sounds stupid with our surname)
Theo (I like, DH thinks it's too posh)

Can you lovely ladies please suggest something that we might be able to agree on, please?

I don't hate all the classic names, I just find them a bit boring and we have a lot of them in the family already: Alex, Tom, Daniel, Ben, Jack, David etc. I do like James, but just think I'd prefer something a bit different. My name was fairly unusual when I was young (although is fairly popular now) and I loved being the only one in the class and school.

We both prefer Leo to Leon because I had a FWB called Leon and he's still around

I quite like Fergus, but think I prefer Ferdy/Ferdinand but sigh DH doesn't

Yeah Fergus is up there with Henry in my posh name list, and it's a lot shorter than your DH's!

Wheresthattoo · 15/01/2016 17:48

anotheremma how do you feel about Ferdy/Ferdinand? Is that posh?

My suggestions would be Rufus or Keir.

zippyswife · 15/01/2016 19:08

I had Rex on the list for dc2. We went with Leo for ds2 but still think Rex would have suited him perfectly. About to have dc3 in a couple of weeks. Rex is back on the list (though I worry about it sounding pretentious) along with Gus (Fergus) Elliott Ewan and Jude.

daisydalrymple · 15/01/2016 19:09

I knew a little boy xav, short for xavier, but always known as xav. (I'm trying to think of similar to Rex, 3 letter short snappy type!)

Wheresthattoo · 15/01/2016 19:10

Thanks next I forgot I like Vincent - can't remember what DH thought.

And thanks to you Seven I've also suggested Rhett before and DH was kind of keen which is definite progress!

Emus · 15/01/2016 19:15

Not sure how Rhett is pronounced but the way I'm saying it it sounds very similar to Rex.

SeldomAthleticFC · 15/01/2016 19:18

We had Rex on our long short list for DS along with
Jerome
Gabriel
Jesse
Max
Leon
and Louis.

Wheresthattoo · 15/01/2016 19:20

And also Dexter is a no from DH but very much a yes from me. He does like Gus but with no longer name so that's a no from me!

Alex is definitely out as DB is Alex and that's too close for me.

Just checked and apparently Ezra Elliott and Jude are too feminine and Xavier is too posh.

We also haven't totally agreed on a girls name - this is never ending!

Wheresthattoo · 15/01/2016 19:23

Thanks seldom but I think they're all out for various reasons, but I might put Gabriel on the currently non-existent list

And Emus Rhett is like Rex, it rhymes with Brett!
